Muhammad Ali fought Floyd Patterson for the World Heavyweight Championship in 1965, and Patterson was 30 years old.

It was only 2 belts in boxing for Heavyweights from 1965-1972 when Patterson retired...the WBA (came into existence in 1965) and the WBC (came into existence in 1970). Prime Joe Frazier held BOTH belts from 1970-72 when Patterson retired. He would have never beat prime Joe.

So, after taking that into consideration, let's adjust the years.

From 1965-1970...it was only 1 belt available, the WBA belt. Ernie Terrell had it from 1965-1967, lost it to Ali in 1967, Ali was stripped of it and Jimmy Ellis got it from 1968-1970. A 33 year old Floyd Patterson actually BEAT Jimmy Ellis on all the press scorecards (AP/press row/newspaper/media) for the WBA title in 1968, and in many people's eyes watching....but the referee (which back then they had referee's decisions if the fight went the distance) seen it the other way and it was a controversial decision in favor of Jimmy Ellis.

Patterson was NOT washed up when Ali beat him if he basically beat the Champion in 1968...3 years after Ali fought Patterson

you the same nikka talking about Prime this, or Prime that he was already defeated by sonny liston twice

he fought for the WBA belt two years later after he fought Ali and lost too

Floyd Patterson was 30 Ali was 23, he was suppose to when

Floyd beating dudes 7 years and more younger than him

I'm done man

its always a double standard

So...basically, you want me to turn this thread and my post into an Ali vs Floyd debate?:dahell:

You don't lose your prime because you lost. That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard:dead:

Patterson wasn't washed up because he went on to become the #1 contender for the WBA Belt. ..3 years after he fought Ali...and BEAT THE CHAMPION on everyone's scorecard but the referee's.

In a time where there were only 2 titles at Heavyweight, he managed to get back to the top of the heap. If he was doing that in 1968...how are you gonna say he was washed up in 1965:mindblown:

Who even says that "he was 30, he was 23...he was supposed to win. Floyd beats dudes 7 years younger than him" in a thread about breaking down Ali's resume?:wow:

Floyd stans:snoop:

@Newzz @krackdagawd

im not gon name them but if Floyd fought certain guys. I don't think he would be undefeated, he would have more rematches maybe even a trilogy. not 1 person couldn't question his resume.

as a matter of fact Floyd could really talk shyt and people would be like:manny:

even @Black_Jesus couldn't hate:sas2:

I agree.

A few more Canelo Alvarez' (young, prime, high ranked fighters) on his resume would've taken him even further on the ATG lists imo
