I do see an issue and I don't. In all fairness, no it's not fair. No it shouldn't be so black and white, especially in team games.
But as I started this whole thing with......... "You want it to be one way, it is not that way"
It's never been that way. In any sport. In any era. We marveled at the feats. We gave props for the things you did. You got the contracts for all of it.................
But the "star" player who kept losing every year. Never was a factor in the playoffs. Never made a championship game. Never won it all. They were NEVER in that upper elechon. They were praised to their extent, then the real playoffs start, and they aren't spoken of except to explain how they keep not making it. They get dubbed regular season players. They get dubbed choke artists.. They get labeled as players who can't get it done when the team needs them. Not a leader. Are they not good under pressure? Questions get raised.. Those contracts get lowered. Minutes get lowered.
I said Harden for a reason. Harden always gets praised.. Puts up numbers. AND wins. Gets his teams far in the playoffs too. What's the knock against him STILL? Can't get it done. Can't lead a team to the promised land. Can't make those stats lead to a ring. Had to join a superteam to get a ring. Same thing they said about KD until he got 2 FMVPs. Now we act like he didn't have to join GS to do it and dub him 2nd best in the game.. But he had to join Steph, who was the current 1st best player cause 1 ring over Bron.. Who is now putting up crazy stats, that nobody cares about, cause they ain't winning 72 games... And if they never win again, but Steph puts up those stats, he'll be Peyton Manning next.
Man, you seem like your heart is in the right place, but in my opinion you're viewing this shyt with such naïveté that you're missing the point.
Everything youre saying is predicated on the idealistic notion that sports is a meritocracy.
For every view you hold to be true, you have to assume that professional sports are a closed ecosystem, and the teams are independent to one another, and the only forces dictating who gets awarded contracts are success on the field... and then OUTSIDE OF THAT, journalists reporting on the sport are doing so in a completely objective manner, and their standards are the same for every player across every sport. And with all of that established as the level playing field by which everyone is judged, the players themselves as participants in this meritocracy need to accept and cherish their labels and narratives, because they signed up for this and that's how sports are.
In reality, professional sports in America are a tax haven and wealth escalator for the biggest businessmen in the country, who buttress that industry with the adjunct sports media industry, and things like the shoe industry, video games, apparel, now online trading cards, etc.
Every. Single. Decision. And I mean every single one, is based on one thing and one thing only: money.
We KNOW the owners colluded to keep Kaep sidelined. You may have forgotten because they painted shyt at the end of the field and wore decals on their helmets, but this shyt is proven in a court of law. So there's one example of a player succeeding and then getting nothing (save, exile) for his performance.
But come on man--every contract is awarded based on one question: will spending x amount of money on player y result in an x+z ROI, where z is added revenue.
If that answer is no, the player doesnt get signed.
And to improve that calculus, teams will do ANYTHING.
If the player is too good and commands too much money, they'll slander him and drop all the dirt they have.
If a player is too good but is too toxic to the community, they'll cover for him and say he's a changed man.
Who's they?
They is the media. The same machine that the owners are a part of. But that media gets their marching order from the teams. Its all one agenda. Its not racism, its not social justice, its not anything other than cold hard fukking cash and control.
I read your post and I just see a man who thinks that this shyt is all organic. Like Stephen A is waking up and pouring over the stats... going for a drive at night with the windows down and meditating on these questions. Like he gave some thought to this shyt. You think these guys just wake up with hot takes and dont need approval from anyone? You think they're independent and ABCDisney lets them do and say whatever they want?
Nah.
So why attack Russ this week?
Why attack anyone ever?
Its driven from the top, its top down.
Russ is too much of a free thinker. Get this man out. Shut him up.
They want him out of the L ASAP, why?
To gete someone younger and cheaper and quieter in there whos "just happy to be there" and will shut up and dribble.
They can change the narrative on anyone like *that*.
