It costs a lot to live in the main areas such as Oakland/Berkeley/Emeryville. Your lucky though since you're not looking to live in the city. The surrounding areas (vallejo/fairfield/hayward/san leandro/stockton/fresno) are still actually kind of affordable. They're a nice blend of urban/suburban, and actually seen like nice places to live. It's cool because you'll still be close to the Oakland and San Francisco and only a couple hours away from LA. I have access to affordable housing lists for Alameda county if money is an issue.
