Anyway, @Strawberry The etymology is obvious. Pickney is short for piccaninny. This isn't made up. Throughout the Caribbean, patois language is a mix up of many different influences and origins in phrases and words. A lot of Jamaicans are unaware of the history of "pickney" because the word has been stripped of its original negative connotations. It's comparable to "nikka" among the AA's. I've never read or heard an AA say "My ******" always "my nikka" The nomenclature makes the difference.
