I dont get the Curren$y hype. Sure he's good at what he does but if you've heard one Curren$y song, you've heard them all. As a rapper idk what he really does well, decent flow I suppose but no punchlines, no quotables. I respect his work ethic but idk how you guys are always anticipating his new releases, he releases new music every month it seems.

I fear for the longevity of most of these new age rappers. Alot of their styles/gimmicks have run stale and they dont even have more than 2 albums out for the most part.

Drake is dope lyricist artist

808s and Heartbreak was a good/decent album (for the mere production alone). I'd rather listen to that than anything Kanye's done post Graduation with WtT being the exception.

Others have said it but Ether is not that much better than Takeover as a diss, I think Jay's reaction is what really fukked it up for him.

- Drake is actually dope. Especially if you view him as a "musician" and not a rapper, he's soft and doesn't quite fit for rapper standards for sure but he talks about refreshing shyt as an artist.


- Game skillset wise is an all time great. He has all the intangibles, if he weren't so damn bi-polar tho


- rap needs more relevant "vets" "old "new artists" it creates balance. old cats need to stop trying to be young tho and rap about shyt that affects them at their age because our culture is old enough to have listeners that are going at grown man music.



- "grunge" needs to start getting openly sampled to death, the pixies, Melvins, velvet underground, Nirvana, all of em.. with these emo cats in rap it's a perfect scenario


- Rick Ross gets a LOT of unfair flack. .. Paul Blart is quite nice of an emcee, he's just a fraud it seems which overshadows a lot of his prowess. If you look at him as an actor you can appreciate what he does.


- Jay's reaction to Ether is what made Ether a legendary household phrase. Had he played it cool and understated it woulda been a clean shot to the chin and a knockdown, instead he played it like he got caught with an uppercut and did the Zab Judah dance. Jay got caught being a fan of the guy he dissed


- Nastradamus is not as wack as it's accused of being, Nas tried doing too much and it shows but there are gems present


- the scariest emcee EVER was Big Punisher on "Fire Water"



- 2Pac is somehow the most overrated AND underrated emcee ever. Basically his standing is the walking contradiction his music sometimes was




- Ice Cube never fell off content wise, he grew up

I agree but i also think hiphop in general should grow more on sampling different genres, not just the same old soul, jazz, funk that is still great but can be stale if not used right. Hip Hop has already had some good songs that sampled classic rock, but every metal sample i've heard was terrible.

nikkaz who are actually using samples of Metal, Grunge, Punk and Rock in general have to actually be fans and have a vision for how to do it that fits hip hop. And I hope that shyt happens soon cause we can get some raw shyt.

- a lot of the dope records that are out today are dope for every other reason besides the actual MC. i often feel like we might as well just listen to the instrumentals with hook in it
