Im glad Im not too deep into Star Wars fandom

One could argue for 20 years there hasnt been a more exhausting pop culture topic (which includes professional critics) and thats saying a lot

Its weird some people are not liking this movie cause its not The Last Jedi but its also weird people hated Last Jedi that much too. Even the whole Rey is a Mary Sue thing was weird

I liked the first 2 films in this trilogy just as an extreme casual so who knows, I probably wont hate this but its wild how people blame all these guys for trying something different or giving people what they want? Im hearing both things

It’s diffrent if you are simply a casual fan as you are not versed in the lore of the universe. So when Disney is out here breaking established lore and shytting all over the previous films it probably isn’t as annoying as you are coming from a place of unawareness. And yes Rey is a Mary Sue even with her so called heritage and from what they say she does in this movie it is definitely established.

There’s no way to fix the mess that was the last film besides retconning it and declaring it non canon. It breaks all sorts of established universe rules, disregards almost everything from the previous film, is riddled with plot holes, inconsistencies, character assassination, breaks in continuity, and sets up nothing whatsoever along the way for the next film. At the end of the movie Luke is dead, there’s maybe 15 people on the falcon from what remained of the fleet with nobody deciding to help them, and the empire seemingly has a colossal fleet like they had in the original trilogy. There’s nothing to build on from what it did.

Well it seems like Abrams actually did try to retcon it. The problem is it seems like the shyt he came up with was either just as bad as what Rian Johnson came up with or even worse lol. So all he really did was piss off the people who actually liked the Last Jedi

I’ll reserve judgment for myself however. Critics loved TFA and TLJ and I was lukewarm on both. Maybe I’ll actually like this one since the critics are trashing it

Who am I kidding, I read the leaks, and yeah, I’m probably gonna hate it lol

the uncomfortable truth about Star Wars is that of all 9 movies, there are only 2 that are universally loved by all the fans. The rest are either polarizing or universally hated

The problem here is that he had nothing to build off of and made a movie that ended a trilogy while basically having nothing to do with either of those films. It sounds like the plot is hardly connected at all. When the middle part of a 3 part story is a train wreck the way the last Jedi was, it really makes it impossible to salvage the story. What he’d have needed to do what make his own episode 8.

A lot of reviews saying JJ went away from what TLJ set up are missing that TLJ didn't set anything up worth trying to carry forward. Snoke was dead, Kylo and Hux believeability as the main villains was destroyed half way through the Crait scenes, Rey's nonexistent arc was complete, The First Order had the resistance down to a Millennium Falcon's worth of people. TLJ did a HORRIBLE job as the middle chapter of a trilogy.

I mean I’d love to say that Abrams was in a no win situation but I also think that lets him off the hook for some of his own deficiencies as a storyteller.

I actually think for all it’s faults, TLJ is a better movie than the Force Awakens. It still baffles me that people loved the Force Awakens so much when it dropped. To me that movie is lazy af and creatively bankrupt. As much of a shytshow TLJ was, at least it tried to do something different. It was an interesting failure while the Force Awakens was a boring failure imo

They probably should’ve made this a 2 parter with the first part essentially retconning/doing over The Last Jedi. Ep 8 was a dead end, this movie was bound to be a convoluted mess.

Excatly the man was left with nothing, hell after that travesty (TLJ) it was career suicide even coming back. He should have declined the request to return and hit them with :hubie:I already done my part it’s on you now KK. Colin Trevorrow must have seen the clear signs and bounced, bet he is :whew:right now. The force awakens was terrible but they could have fixed things with two movies instead of making it worst.
