THIS is the most mind boggling thing about the entire sequel trilogy. They came up with an extremely compelling and original idea for a star wars protagonist and just... threw it away
He could have been the Jason Bourne / Winter Soldier of Star Wars. A brainwashed super soldier who breaks free of his programming. There's so much story to tell around a character like that: you have his guilt about fighting people he once fought with; his desire to atone for past atrocities he participated in; his anxiety about whether he still has the psychological triggers of his brainwashing; his distrust about being used as a weapon again by the Resistance; everyone around him being afraid that he's really a first order double agent... hell, you could use him to dump exposition explaining
what the fukk the first order is and how they became so powerful in the first place.
AND they had the fight choreographers from the Raid in the movie already so you KNOW his fight scenes could have been fukking A1
They came up with a character who had alllllllll of that storytelling/action potential and were just like "nah, let's go with the comic relief space janitor
" These dikkheads threw an interception at the goal line in the super bowl
I fukk with boyega though. He can only work with what he's given and it's clear he's not feeling the direction they went in either.
