Lupita Nyong’o has reportedly had her role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens cut down, after director JJ Abrams was left unimpressed with her performance as space pirate Maz Kanata.
Despite winning an Oscar with her role in 12 Years A Slave back in 2013, it’s said that Lupita struggled with the motion-capture technology that was used to bring her character to life – with JJ Abrams demanding that her dialogue was re-recorded.
Speaking to The Sun, a Star Wars insider said: ‘The CGI seemed to be what Lupita struggled with, perhaps because it meant she felt less of a connection to the character.
‘There was a general sense that something wasn’t working so a lot of her scenes ended up being either re-worked or cut. Unfortunately she just didn’t end up delivering.
