I'm definitely not a contrarian or a go against the grain type of dude. Generally speaking, when the masses love a movie more often than not I love it as well. But it baffles me the amount of people who think Force Awakens is a great movie. I thought it was lazy, uninspired and just completely half-assed. I saw it in theaters and haven't had the desire to watch it again. And mind you, I'm a Star Wars fan who WANTED to love this movie, and I still came out disappointed.
Preach. I didnt think it was a bad movie but i thought from a creative standpoint it was as lazy as it gets. I can see JJ sitting there like "fukk it lets just remake a new hope and pump it with a bunch of nostalgia. They'll eat that up:mjlol:"

in a lot of ways the creators of star wars are already at a severe disadvantage because it will be literally impossible to top what we've already seen.

we've already seen:

- the most badass villain the saga will ever feature (vader)

- the most badass hero the saga will ever feature (han solo)

- the wisest, most mythical character the saga will ever feature (yoda)

- the most destructive and awe inspiring bad guy super-weapon the saga will ever feature (death star)

- the biggest plot twist the saga will ever feature (vader revealing himself to be luke's father)

- the most disgusting and reviled creature the saga will ever feature (jabba the hutt)

these things will never be outdone. there will never be a wise character that can measure up to yoda, never an evil character that will measure up to vader, etc.

instead in TFA we get discount vader, discount emperor, discount yoda, discount han solo, discount death star, etc.

if they really wanna raise the bar they have to try NEW things.

I remember me and @wire28 being 2 of the first people calling this movie out. Ive said it 10 times but ill say it again: TFA will age like shyt. The same people who were acting like it was amazing will be wondering why they loved it so much
I've been saying that this movie was a giant scam.

if episode 8 turns out to be great, it may retroactively make TFA better as well.

however if it just turns out to be 'first order strikes back'.... all hope is lost.

If they go into writing with that mentality, yeah. But if they swung for the fences and trying to top those things they could have succeeded. Instead they decided to make shytter versions of each of those things.

They are framing Rey as heroic and bending over backwards to make sure she subverts any and every negative stereotype about white women being weak or incompetent.

They did not bother to do this for Finn. They were happy to make the only black character a slave, a buffoon, a janitor, an uneducated, hapless loser who knows nothing about tools or the Force, is played for laughs every time he's onscreen, and fails to win a single fight in 2 hours of runtime.

Name one white character in 7 films who has been treated this shabbily:

That video :scust: and some on here will still defend the portrayal despite the clear bullshyt :scust:

You can tell there are no black folks working in the writer's room at Lucasfilm.

No one to point out the implications of having Poe name Finn like a slave.

No one to point out how insulting it is to have Finn drinking out of a dirty trough like an animal.

No one to point out how it might be offensive to joke about the only black character being a janitor.

The Force Awakens is a case study in how white people write black characters when there's no one around to call them out on their bullshyt.

Glad we have Coogler at the helm for Black Panther, at least.

:whew::salute:

I said the same shyt breh. A lot of stans didn't even recognize the bullshyt
