Don't tell me there's 30 issues of comic book backstory in between either

just watch the original trilogy

- return of the jedi

that's all you need to watch. the new movie that's coming out this december takes place 30 years after return of the jedi. this is the first time where the story is actually moving FORWARD.

the comics and all that extra shyt don't count. all that matters are the movies. if you wanna catch up and feel fully equipped going into the force awakens come december all you need to do is watch the original 3.

Well, they (the novels, tv shows, video games, comics and any other media associated with the franchise) do add a lot to it. But yeah, at least watch all (6) movies going into the force awakens.

Knights of the old republic one and two, without a doubt.

And the battlefront games from last decade.

But the most essential is dice's battlefront that is releasing in November this year, it's going to be incredible and the free dlc for it will be maps for a battle involving the factions of the force awakens and a planet that will be in the movie.
