I'm honestly really tempted to use some of the money in my bank account to buy a Darth Vader costume and show up to the release in it.
During a panel, Edwards stated that the film will take place between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, and will be about a group of rebels banding together to steal plans for the Death Star. Those plans are what allowed Luke Skywalker to destroy the battle station in the original film.
Rogue One won't be a film about people with The Force or the Jedi in general, Edwards said. Instead "it comes down to a group of individuals who don't have magical powers that have to somehow bring hope to the galaxy."
Felicity Jones, whose casting has already been announced, will play a Rebel soldier involved in the mission. Edwards underscored that the film is aiming for realism, and that it's a no-holds-barred war picture. "It's the reality of war. Good guys are bad. Bad guys are good. It's complicated, layered; a very rich scenario in which to set a movie."
Edwards emphasized that the film is first and foremost a war movie, “It’s called ‘Star Wars,'” he pointed out wryly. Below-the-line talent and production heads have previously worked on a number of combat films, with Edwards name-dropping “Zero Dark Thirty,” “Black Hawk Down” and “Saving Private Ryan” to give fans an idea of “Rogue One’s” inspirations.
Since “Rogue One” takes place in the aftermath of the destruction of the Jedi order, Edwards said, “The absence of the Jedi is omnipresent.” Instead of characters relying on the power of an unpredictable Force to save them, the film will center around “real,” grounded human issues. “It’s about the fact that God’s not coming to save us… we have to do this ourselves,” Edwards said. “It comes down to a group of individuals that don’t have magic powers… that have to bring hope to the galaxy.”
Edwards noted that what he loved about the original “Star Wars” trilogy was that it was a very “black and white” universe — with the lines between good guys and bad guys very clearly delineated. “Rogue One,” however, will focus on the shades of grey in the galaxy far, far away — the bad guys can be good and the good guys can be bad.

Those long-standing rumors may in fact prove true: Boba Fett is reportedly getting his own movie.
TheWrap claims that the Boba Fett standalone movie will be Disney's second planned Star Wars Anthology film, the new designation for all non-Episode, spinoff and standalone films as announced by Lucasfilm at Star Wars Celebration last month.
Chronicle and Fantastic Four director Josh Trank exited the project Friday, saying in a statement, "After a year of having the incredible honor of developing with the wonderful and talented people at Lucasfilm, I’m making a personal decision to move forward on a different path. I’ve put a tremendous amount of thought into this, and I know deep down in my heart that I want to pursue some original creative opportunities."
TheWrap says Lucasfilm and Disney are on the hunt for a new director and could even hire someone before the first Star Wars Anthology movie, Rogue One, begins filming this summer.
If this Boba Fett solo film is indeed an origin tale, it's unknown if it will it pick up after the events of Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones -- where we met young Boba as an unaltered clone of the bounty hunter Jango Fett who raised him as his son -- or retread ground covered in the prequel. That appears unlikely since The Clone Wars is canon and did several episodes with a young Fett in-between Episode II and III.
However, it was reported in 2013 that the "Boba Fett film would take place either between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, or between Empire and Jedi, where the bounty hunter was last seen plunging unceremoniously into a sarlacc pit."
Then there was a rumor last year that one story idea pitched for a solo Boba Fett movie would see a new character kill the original Boba, take his Mandalorian armor, and assume his identity.
Earlier reports pegged any Boba Fett spinoff as a bounty hunter-centric tale about the theft of the Death Star plans, but it appears Rogue One is utilizing the essence of that idea but with Rebels rather than bounty hunters.
DoneOP @double0 can you change the thread title to the Star Wars anthology thread? Because....
