Imma let u do u breh, I barely come in this thread cuz y'all geek out too much about this shyt. Keep "sticking it out" like you're forced to watch
It's not that at all. I'm in the exact same boat as Hayesc0. I've watched Star Trek since I was barely walking. It's sticking it out in the hope that something is going to stick that you go 'oh now it feels like a Star Trek show should'. For a lot of fans, especially long term ones, this has been the case. Even with the things that still feel off this was the first episode that I wasn't glancing at my phone or pottering around doing Ng something while it was on.
I think this is largely due to Frakes directing this one. It was definitely the best idea to have him direct an episode that is steeped in previous lore.
The main issue with this is the amount of executive producets, including Les Moonves(CBS head honcho) sticking their oar in as to how this show should look/feel. He wanted it to be so much like the pish JJ Abrams Kelvin timeline that Bryan Fuller struggled to keep everyone happy and jus decided to fukk off. And rightly so. I would have done the same. If you look at these upcoming models of the Discovery ships you can see how un-Klingon like they look.

There should still be some sort of continuity in the look of things but it just didn't happen. I realise it's a minor niggle but a 52 year old franchise should be somewhat consistent. Obviously to have the design the same as TOS would be a challenge to look Retro and advanced at the same time but all it would have required was the right people and the right amount of effort.
Yes I'm ranting but little things like that are important to fans. Unfortunately CBS shat(no pun intended) themselves and wanted it to be as different as possible just to get people to subscribe to something too 'modern' and disconnected from what Star Trek stands for.
Kirsten Beyer and the legendary Nicholas Meyer are involved in thia but their influence is barely visible. This series has very little resemblance to the novels Beyer has written or The Wrath Of Khan/The Undiscovered Country.
This could have been excellent but there's too many opinions flying around and having Moonves involved who has no interest in the history or ethos of the show is killing any chance it has.
It's like when the director of Star Trek Nemesis was hired with no prior knowledge of the show. He rubbed the cast up the wrong way because he had no clue and frankly no interest n what he was doing. This should have been, as originally planned, a Star Trek show by Star Trek fans for Star Trek fans AND the wider audience.
So yeah I will 'stick with it'. Not because I HAVE to. But because I WANT to. In the hope that things will work out.
