:whoa: Im a Stephen King stan....

...but damn :ohhh: He was in his fukking zone when writing 'Salem't Lot :smugbiden:.

Probably because he wasn't published yet and was going so hard. He got Carrie published and then thought about this novel he already wrote like :ohhh: "Lemme give it a shot :manny:". His publisher was like"aiiiiiiight...but one thing, you gonna be typecast as a horror writer" and Stephen King was like ":heh: just make sure the check clears doggie, I got this :win:" (this is a true story)

Anyways, prolly his greatest book. People talk big shyt about IT and The Stand, which is all good, and it may sound weird since they were BIGGER, character driven books. But Salem's Lot was significantly smaller and got much more accomplished.

He was drinking, smoking, sniffing, and drinking cough syrup and nyquil in this era and it continued until the 80's :mjpls:.

It's odd how he fell off after that :yeshrug:

I'm a King fan as well. I don't read much but like 70% of the books I've read in my lifetime were King books

I read Salem's Lot a long long time ago, I don't remember it, I wanna either read it again or watch the movie. I was thinking of copping the movie on DVD but I dunno whether to go with the original or the 2004 remake.

But to me his best book and my favorite book of all times is IT. That book is a literature masterpiece.

i need to read that, the greatest horror novels that got turned into flicks were the hannibal lechter books (except hannibal rising) but red dragon, silence of the lambs and hannibal were all good reads

It was so cold when they open they go down into the basement and the vampires had a knife pit waiting while they cut the stairs in half. I was :krs: one of the coldest things I read cause I wasn't expecting it at all.

Probably my favorite Stephen King book aside from "On Writing"

Salem's Lot is my second favorite King book coming in very closely behind IT.

Go with the original from the 70s; that remake was complete shyt.

Read it again and watch the original miniseries.

Im not even mad at the 2004 minseries...if the both of them combined elements it would be perfect.

IT is great....I probably ran through that shyt like 11 or 12 times since the early 90's.....Salem's Lot is a bit of a better read to me though.

My favorite King book too, though I read it about 17 years ago, but I ran through it in just a few days. Just pure bliss. :ahh:

Never watched the movie because a few of the films based on his books have been utter garbage and I didn't want to be disappointed.

Salem's Lot managed to avoid the issue that the majority of King TV movie adaptations suffer from mainly where the ending is a complete let down.

:whoa:

That's one of the biggest misconceptions that King fell off. I just read "Everything's Eventual". Crack. After that I read "Full Dark, No Stars". More crack.

Does he have a few weak books/stories? Of course. But he's been doing this for 39 years. Dude's ratio of good:bad is 80:20 I'd say.

And at least he's still writing horror. He's rich, he could've retired. Or got on some Andre shyt like Clive Barker and tried to "branch out artistically". :stopitslime:

Aside from the less than totally satisfying ending I thought Under The Dome was vintage King.

He's always had a problem sticking the landing, so I believe it.

He's writing a sequel to "The Shining". It had better be :whoo:
