I get this but currently Joe Budden pod is exclusively on Spotify but there are no ads and it’s on the free version

Isn’t Spotify eventually going to have to get people to pay for Spotify and get advertising dollars?

I’m just not fully sold on Podcast being the key to Spotify being profitable

i remember joe talking about this and if i remember correctly it's because spotify was low balling him with the ad money and they didn't have ads that was good for his demographic. he was talking about it with rory and they said they need to have control of the ads with their next deal.

what’s going to keep people on your platform podcast or music?

no one is listening to a podcasters catalogue

I bet podcast listernship is down significantly during the quarantine

that's true. bill simmons said downloads for all theringer podcasts are down significantly.

and having a hold on podcast and music will keep ppl on the platform. joe rogan alone will bring an extra few million with each episode and once bill simmons podcast becomes exclusive that'll be another few million an episode as well.

Spotify was never the main platform for musicians. It was more a of a means for exposure, no different than Youtube or Apple Music. Podcasts exclusively streaming on Spotify is not the same thing as a musician whose music is available on multiple platforms. These are people who're signing to Spotify and remaining with them exclusively. I'm certain if someone like Kendrick or another marquee artist signed an exclusive deal with Spotify, they'd see millions and other musicians would follow. In fact, I'm sure this Joe Rogan deal will spur that shift sooner than later.

you'd never expect these artist to be poor with the way they seem to always flaunt their wealth in music videos

not worried about em
In the age of the Rona, that's a wrap. These artists are about to starve until Fall 2021, at the earliest. No concerts. No clubs. We are witnessing a fundamental breakdown of a very influential subset of our society.

what is Spotify’s play with these podcast? They still have to get people to subscribe.

Do they want people listening to podcast and not music?

the problem with podcast is that the catalog is largely worthless
The play is exclusivity. Rogan's fan base will bring subscribers. The longer-term goal is to become the place where all the big podcast are. That could give them a major leg up on their competition.
At least 70% of jobs are not even listed — here's how to up your chances of getting a great new gig
70% of jobs are never even listed. They are just given to someone who knows someone. This is the world Black people live in. I'm all for working hard and grinding. MLK has a great quote about the hypocrisy of lifting one up by their own bootstraps. But, at the same time, he believed in Black excellence and working hard. It's not an either/or discussion.

If i was a artist I would want to be paid to go on podcast

That would kill it quick
on a Joe Budden podcast from last year they even brought up the point when podcasters play music on a podcast it should technically count as a stream for that artist too and how artists basically get their music stolen by podcasts because they cant profit from it being played there.

the whole music industry is developing before our eyes and unfortunately a lot of things dont get figured out until way late.
