Aquaman, Swamp Thing and WW were already powerhouses. All the new 52 did is take their long storied histories and erase them, making them one-dimensional non-nuanced charachters again.
Their most contraversal and complex stories are said to have never happened yet DC still wants to capitalize on brand recognition despite the entire brand content being changed.
Aquaman having to cut off his own hand to save his newborn son's life (pre-52) is a far better origin story than anything they could do with the new one.
Every detail is discarded. If you look at the costumes they look like they were all designed by the same tailor (which they were if you consider the same artist designing them all).
There is no variation really, no story behind the costumes, they don't add anything or tell you about the charachter in the same way... its all Pepsi-One. Completely shyt ingrediants relying on people recognizing the logo for sales.
Superman and Batman have the exact same costume with different logos. Flash too, except for the boots, and from the waste down I don't know if I'm lookinh at WW or GL. Terrible designs all over.
Originally Superman's earth-mom handstitched his costume and his cape was the blanket his real mom & dad wrapped him in as a baby.
WW's costume was an armored bodice, and bracelets crafted by the gods and once worn by her mother, and the stars and US colors represented her friendship/ambassadorship to America.
Batman's costume was tailored to incite fear and deceptively hide his actual size and position when his cape is splayed (thats how he doesn't get shot)
GL's costume was a construct of his mind and imagination, and Flash's was able to be supercompressed at a level as to fit inside the ring he wore.
Aquaman's costume was supposed to be aquadynamic, sleek for minimal water resistance (thats why the best Aquaman with the one hand doesn't wear that stupid riged shirt that the original and the new one wear. It would srew up your swimming)
Now everyone just looks like they are wearing plating.
I didn't mention Cyborg cause he is affirmitive actioned onto the team but adds nothing. There is nothing he adds the other members don't have covered except "black"
Martian Manhunter's alter ego was already black.
7th slot is Martian Manhunter or a Hawk character. Anything else is ridiculous. He looks as out of place with the big 6 as Zatanna was.
