The gun people claim that it's important for people to own guns to protect themselves, but really a gun is only important to protect yourself from another gun.

If we could somehow eliminate all guns today, what would be the drawback? It's not like you have polar bears wandering into people's yards.

Example: let's say you go to your local hood club and hand everyone a machete on the way in the door to protect themselves (no guns at all in this thought experiment). Wouldn't the outcome of a brawl be 1000x worse?

[G-d forbid anyone is ever assaulted by a robber] If a mugger steps to you, even if the guy has a switchblade, it's not 1/100th as terrifying or dangerous as someone accosting you with a gat.

I get the circular argument that we need guns cause weirdos have them, but if they would just stop making legal bullets then weirdos wouldn't be such a problem either. (Yes you'd have black market bullets but they would be much more expensive and hard to come by than stopping by your local Wal and copping a shopping cart full).

You don't want to give up the right to own guns bro. It's in the constitution for a reason. Tragedy's like this will happen. If a person want's to kill massive amounts of people he will do it. He could have thrown home made explosives, walked in with a flame thrower, or went crazy with a samurai sword.

Guns are for the people if the govt ever gets out of line. The people of this country are the last stand against tierany.

I wouldn't be surprised if more "random" acts of violence with guns like this just happen to pop up, What a convient way for the govt to say see we need to take your guns away from you to keep you protected. F that.

Fair point. I am not trying to make light out of the situation. Gas was in the air, people running and screaming, and it was dark. It would be a tough situation even for a trained individual.

Yes you need guns cause azzholes have them. What if NO ONE HAD THEM, then what good are guns? What is the intrinsic good? If we need them becuase crazy people have them then that's more proof that they have a negative impact and no real purpose. It's like a protection racket where they ask for protection money. Protection from who? From the guy asking for the money.

See how the 9mm and AKs did against us in Afghanistan and Iraq. They made IMPROVISED explosive devices. They had knowledge of their terrain and blended in and out.

When you have a will, tactics, support of the people and knowledge of your terrain, it can overcome many things.
