personally, I'd rather make 50k a year and work only 8 hours a day and get home at a reasonable time to see my fam on a daily basis than work 12-16 hours a day to make 6 figures and have my job consume my life.

For me, I make more than 50, and less than 100. but I believe I make probably like 10k less than my younger sister, yet she works waaaaayyyyyy more hours than me (her husband was telling me this last week). getting off at like 8 and 10pm on the regular. meanwhile I get off work while its still day time, have time to exercise 4 times a week, and can be at home eating dinner with my wife and kids every night. plus I only have to be in the office 4 days a week. for those perks, I'd happily sacrifice a little money for that piece of mind.
I'm always in this side of the argument

But, for same of the OP, everything is equal

Yea, breh, you need to tighten up this hypothetical cuz I'm not sure which is the case:

1. You have two jobs that, as a condition of that employment, make it so that you make 50k with one but save 1k a month or 100k but can only save 250 (ie the 50k job is in Houston and the other is in nyc, and to have the standard of living you require in each city you end up with 1k a month extra in Houston, and 250 extra in nyc... Assuming you like each city equally) For this scenario, I'd take the 50k with 1k a month left over

2. You have two jobs that are pretty much identical (location, stress level, etc) , but choose to live a lifestyle that results in you only having 250 a month left over (bigger car, better house, better entertainment, etc) as opposed to earning less but living a lifestyle that leaves you with 1k a month. For this scenario, I'd take the 100k with 250 a month left over

The OP's original question is confusing.

You're saying I either have $1000 or $250 left over, but that my retirement/savings have already been taken care of? So basically this is just what I have to entertain myself every month? I'd rather take the 100 racks then because I assume I'd already have more stuff in place to entertain myself (in regards to systems, the best cable package, clubs I'm in, etc., etc.)

Yeah, it also includes money you put into investments, savings and such?

Don't most people take that money out first when they get paid?

Yes but people don't take out money to see a sporting event, or concert, or buy gifts, or go on vacations, etc....are those expenses included?

Bumping this thread now that money value is changed.

Would you rather make $120k and have no debt, or make $170k and have $500k in debt? That’s still a $50k a year gap, but it’s not the 2010’s anymore. ⌚

I make $110k now with very little debt (just a few g's on my vacation credit card). $120k + no debt, all day every day.

120k and no debt easy. 500k debt is crazy and will probably be with you for all of your life if you're making 170k.
