Why didn't Papo just chill on Lola's steps. Why did he have to stay on that white ladies stoop? Was it his ptsd?

My bad. I was probably thinking of the dude playing Da Mayor. Someone was repping the Dominican hard. Either way, I liked him and his weird priestess sister.

You are correct. I liked MARS as well.

As a life long Clinton Hill/ Ft Greene resident, it was cool to see my little part of Brooklyn which I’ve lived all my life get attention. It was annoying when they were filming this as they took away blocks of parking but I digress, the show was good but I found some of the acting over the top. Mars was meh, the French dude wasn’t convincing as a heart throb, and Nola, she shyts on everyone and gets away with it. And it’s not a male/female thing, she just represents the modern dating scene: where everyone is out for only themselves and use people how they see fit. And then we got the simps who fall for this crap.

I mean if you want to say it’s reversal of societal views? Men acting like women and women who act like men because they think acting like what they think men act like gives them some sort of advantage from getting “played” instead of being accountable for whatever misfortunes happen to their love lives.

It was a good show though..

Did the scene about gentrification and the meetings represent what’s happening in the neighborhood now? Just trying to see how true they scene was.

Spike has the themes he just needs to work with younger talent to make the execution more realistic. This is why this show is a mess and chiraq was a mess. This is why shows like Insecure actually work.

Spikes latest work look good due to technology but they are all missing what made his early work good. Right now Spike appears to be disconnected with the ground level of things.

At first i thought i was just being a man that simply didnt understand some of the stuff in thos show but even my girl felt it was trash.

I agree with the bolded 1,000 percent. I liked she’s gotta have it but I don’t think it’s great or very good. It’s okay and I’m a sucker for black television and black repesentation.

Oh yea. There is a big disconnect between folks who been living here for decades and these new comers. These new comers feel that since they are paying a lot of money to live here and these neighborhoods are changing to benefit them, they have some entitlement. The older residents are lost because some of their old stores and hang outs spots are either gone or over crowded. Then they stare at you when you’re walking around like you’re the stranger. That’s the insulting part. Some of them respect the history of the area and the fact that you’re an “OG” if you will but others like that white lady who got that homeless Dominican cat arrested always trying to impose their own rules. Then they bring in these businesses that force the local spots to rise prices. Then everyone on bikes and these bike lanes make traffic. Then they don’t understand alt side parking and eat the tickets and never ever move their cars.

I’m go a little in on it. Seeing how this my neighborhood being shown. It’s not all bad. I do enjoy the diversity especially with the food and some of the events these folks try to get the community involved. But growing up, no one even knew where Clinton hill was. And it was quiet. Everyone knew everyone. I could never cut class because my school was across the street from my brownstone and neighbors would snitch. But when my mother died, my dad was out doing errands and I got my aunt who lives in my neighborhood and my next door neighbor to help me. That’s what’s missing with these new comers. These just sleep here and never really engage with folks in the community. My family are the last of the OGs on my block. Everyone either moved or passed away. And growing up I felt I had a huge extended family and friends with my neighbors and we co existed and looked out for each other. It wasn’t this oh these are my steps don’t sit (even though yea it’s your house do what you want), like the shyt with Papo wouldn’t have gone down. My new neighbors, they don’t speak. When we cross paths going to our front doors it’s just stares. They treat you like you’re the stranger. I had one conversation with my new neighbors. They asked me how long I’ve been here. I said all my life. I never moved. Same brownstone. They were like :ohhh:

They figured we either rappers or fukking some sort of entertainers. Nah we hard working people who saved up and own. It’s getting worst. We getting an apple store, parking the traffic will be a nightmare

Just finished it... Spike being Spike. The lack of cohesion in the episodes was made up for by the explicit blackness (and overt whiteness) of the cast and music choices (bravo on that).

Last episode was filler as all hell. He was really trying to fit a LOT of subjects in this season and did a pretty sloppy job towards the end (which may get tied up in season 2... or not).

I liked it overall.

Nola is like the manic pixie dream girl where everyone is drawn to her but in reality she’s just messed up.

Artist in today’s world would be selling online and trying to get in work at galleries anywhere. Spike is peddling that pre-internet live in New York and just sell it there and you can make it fantasy

I really didn’t buy that someone loved like Greer wouldn’t be sleeping with 20 other chicks off Tinder and not be hung up on her.

Like LordCashmere said, he needs to work with some younger people.

I don’t think I’ve ever disliked a main character of a show more than Nola. She’s Karen Page levels of awful. She’s a terrible human being with absolutely no redeeming qualities, that I want to see fail in every episode.

Any other character would make a more enjoyable lead. Hell, I cared more about Raqueletta Moss after 2 minutes than I’ve cared about Nola over the course of the entire series. The other characters and their lives are the only reason I’ve enjoyed the show somewhat.
