Sony's Animated Spider-Man Movie Release Date Pushed Up
Sony’s untitled animated “Spider-Man” movie is now slated to arrive one week earlier. The film will release on December 14th, 2018 instead of the original December 21st date.
The film, which will see fan-favorite Miles Morales in the title role, is said to have a “throwback vibe.” Previously, writer Phil Lord promised that fans of Spider-Man can rest assured knowing that the as-yet-untitled animated feature will not “feel like every other Spider-Man movie you’ve seen.”

Sony's ANIMATED SPIDER-MAN moves up a week--12/14/18 instead of 12/21.
Miles Morales was created in 2011 by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Sara Pichelli as part of Marvel’s Ultimate line of comics. Miles assumed the identity of Spider-Man after the death of that universe’s Peter Parker. Following the end of Marvel’s Ultimate imprint in 2015, Miles was integrated into Marvel’s main universe and is currently a part of the Champions team lineup.
Starring Shameik Moore as Miles Morales and “Ray Donovan” star Liev Schrieber as the film’s yet-to-be-revealed villain, the film is set to be co-directed by Bob Persichetti (“The Little Prince”) and Peter Ramsey (“Rise of the Guardians”) from a script by Phil Lord, who is executive producing with his “LEGO Movie” and “Han Solo” movie collaborator Chris Miller. The film will hit the big screen in December 2018.
