Shoooot I was going the opposite way lol, I’m actually wondering how well MCU Spider-Man would actually do if left to his own devices.

No Ironman, no DS, no Avengers stimulus package, no 20 years in the making swan song…

I dunno if Holland would do any better than the Garfield movies.

The trilogy yeah, but a new trilogy? I don’t think it neccessiarly needs MCU but i do like the little cameos like Matt Murdock and I do want to see spider-man with the F4 eventually.

Yea, the cameos in general are great and are what made the mcu refreshing to begin with. I just found the selective nature of (older) fan narratives interesting, to your earlier point about how Parker's stories are getting redundant. The mcu used gimmicks to distract just like they did with Carol Danvers but ppl only act like it was done for the latter.

Miles becoming popular (mostly thanks to spiderverse) is what really revitalized the franchise, from the comics to games to movies. even going back and doing the symbiote story with Miles involved makes it much more interesting. Pete never really had anyone to really check him before so it adds an interesting dynamic.

I remember when they first introduced Miles in the comics I always thought they need to find a way to integrate him into the mainline 616 continuity.

Yeah, the benefit of being connected to the MCU was to boost an already popular IP with the MCU’s winning streak at the time, now I don’t even know if spider-man needs them nikkas

I’m not entirely sure how true this is when you look at his comic sales, Peter has always sold regardless of what his properties are doing in comics, movies, or tv shows. Absolute carnage was a really good story but the primary focus was on Peter and Eddie, I felt miles was forced into that story and was kind of out of place because he has no real history with either symbiote.

I would say the mcu was the biggest boost for spider-man, enter the spider verse was good but including Spider-Man in civil war was huge. I also disagree with miles being in the 616, he needs to be in his own universe with his own mythos, ultimate miles was better than 616 miles.

It's an interesting era we're in because comic characters becoming mainstream flipped every preconceived notion on it's head. In truth, comic book sales themselves are the lowest barometer of popularity. Which is why ppl neckbeards get so surprised when GotG blows up, or Captain Marvel, or the Avengers big 3 become "A-list". Or when Miles Morales becomes the 3rd highest selling PlayStation game of all time in the USA.

Put another way: Black Panther will never outsell Batman or Spider-Man in floppies because that's a small, niche majority-white audience... but he'll outperform those two IPs in the box office because that's a larger piece of the pie and who knows what a well done AAA game would do numbers wise. Hell, GotG is more popular than the F4 ever were.

Regarding Ultimate Miles, i actually prefer 616 over him. Tho both are inferior to Spider-Verse Miles. I basically agree with most of what this video says about why Spider-Verse "fixed" Miles (and is the superior version), while addressing issues with Tom Holland Spider-Man (a pallet swap of Ultimate Miles)

I'd say that 616 Miles is somewhere in-between the Ultimate and Spider-verse versions. I did like Mile's clique of friends better in the Ultimates tho.

Imo Miles absolutely needs to stay in the 616 and carve out his own mythos within it; especially since the one useful purpose of comics in this day and age, is to harvest stories for future movie, tv show, and game storylines.

Black Panther didn’t out perform Spider-man no way home though, I’m not just talking about comic books but toys which is the best indicator because they sell regardless of what Spider-Man is doing in any media that is why marvel finessed Sony for the toy rights years ago. Even the game is the third behind peter’s Spider-Man at second and god of war at first.

I’ve always found the F4 to be boring despite really liking Dr. Doom but if they get a good script and actors that look the part they can easily out perform gotg because of the brand reaction, same with the x-men. A quality batman movie like a dark knight will out perform a black Panther movie hell the joker movie won an Oscar and was number 1 in the box office, the sequel is about to do crazy numbers

Spider-verse miles is the best miles, miles is never leaving the 616 at this point but I do think at the very least he needs his own city have him go to college and go to Chicago or even Philly and create his own rouges gallery and give him a love interest that isn’t an iconic part of peter’s mythos.

I was really surprised that Marvel just didn’t follow the spectacular Spider-Man cartoon or even ultimate Spider-Man because they have the supporting cast that they are trying to create for Tom holland but I think Ned is going to be the hobgoblin in the future movies.

Comics and toys are separate tbf, and they don't give us readily avaiable numbers about toys and merch like they do (or did) with comics. All we got was a report a decade or so ago about Spidey being #1 in merch. And mind you, Miles game became 3rd all time after only being out a short period of time compared to Spidey 1 and GoW. Hell, Miles is co-lead of Spidey 2... so there is no denying his popularity or stardom.

And nah breh, Black Panther outperformed Dark Knight (and Joker) so there's no basis that a quality Batman movie will out perform a Black Panther movie... since the aforementioned were quality... and Black Panther (a quality movie as well) outperformed both. That's kinda my point.. the comic readers will have their preconceived notions (for example, you might think F4 is boring but most comic heads would view them as royalty)... when in the real world nyggas prefer a talking rac00n.

NWH did better than BP but BP outperformed the first two MCU Spider-Man's, plus peep my response a few posts back regarding NWH.

For as much as people mock Captain Marvel’s box office for getting an Infinity War stimulus package despite a mid story…

…when we gonna have that uncomfortable conversation about how MCU Spider-Man’s entire style is getting gifted stimulus packages and marketing gimmicks to distract from its mediocrity?:lupe:

Homecoming: @Ironman is in 10% of the movie but 50% of the marketing + Civil War stimulus

FFH: End Game stimulus package + even in death @Ironman kicks off the trailer

NWH: “Last Dance” featuring every Sam Raimi/ Sony Spidey and villain of the last 20 years… oh yea, + Doctor Strange

I'm pretty sure a 3rd BP movie (in a world where T'Challa was still around for the first 2) with all the guest appearances and gimmicks thrown in would do ridiculous numbers as well.
