What's your solution, other taking on the difficult task of not flying to Paris?

Isn't that the whole point - that "not flying to Paris" is a really easy and simple way to avoid making the problem worse?

I think that in order to keep ourselves from destroying the planet, on a personal level we should drive less, hardly fly at all, own fewer cars and concentrate on more fuel-efficient ones, use public transport more, engage in our local community more, live closer to work, buy fewer consumer goods especially online, use things longer and fix them more often rather than disposing of them, and live in smaller, more fuel-efficient homes. On a structural level we should build better public transport, use more efficient and cleaner forms of agriculture, incentivize local production over globalization, reduce military expenditures, transition to cleaner energy, and improve health care, education, and poverty across the globe with the side effect of reducing birth rates.

Of all those things, "not taking international joy-flights" and "eating a more sustainable diet" probably have the greatest benefit-to-cost ratio of anything on the list. Merely by planning a simpler vacation closer to home, one with far less time cramped into a plane, far fewer waits in lines, far less hassle of international borders and communication, and having your money go far further, you'll likely get just as much personal benefit while reducing your carbon footprint by a huge amount.

Seems like a really small thing to ask, but Americans have a 150-year history of being inundated by messages telling them to do the opposite. And it's not for our benefit.

SMF and LAX to VA and NC
El Paso to Phoenix and Phoenix to Raleigh is a crazy trip :dead:

Bruh it didn't make any sense. This was on Friday the 23rd, luckily my delay to Raleigh was only two hours, but in hindsight it was a foreshadowing of the weekend to come...

That flight from Phoenix to Raleigh was long as fukk...

You’re a Ft. Bliss dude, huh?
:myman:

I lived in EP for six years. I’m not military though. Thinking about moving back, actually. If you’re Black and in EP, you’re either a soldier, a student at UTEP, or a federal employee.

Took his ass the opposite way first and wasted two hours. Southwest is on some dumb shyt.
:mjlol:

Nah I work in the restaurant industry, got us a mission out here. Been here since November 19...

You enjoyed living here? I couldn't do it bro, this city is 82% Hispanic, mostly Mexicans but there's other Latinos here, and 3% black. If it was a bigger city you could balance out those numbers (like how San Diego is 6.1% black compared to 43% white, 29.5% Hispanic, 17.5% Asian; SD is big enough that 6% black is still ~84,000 black people, compared to ~22,000 black people for EP's 3.3% black)...

SD is also diverse enough that the city as a whole has no one group that is over 50%, so you don't feel 'as' smothered by underepresentation, and you know at least when you're in certain parts of Southeast you have a solid black presence...

This city is 82% Hispanic and literally feels like an extension of Juarez/Chihuahua. I couldn't do it, bruh. I have 12 days left here, can't wait to leave. Just really isn't an attractive place to me, and almost everyone black I've met here also aren't huge fans of this city...

Half of the people have it right (an old outdated system), half of the people think we’re one of the worst airlines (far from it) and as an employee we’re lowkey amused this to a degree because we’ve known something like this was bound to happen. I don’t even want to say too much but just know that we’ve known as employees that we went from putting people over profits when Herb was CEO to a complete shift and it’s showed ever since GK.

Strictly as a passenger, SW has tighter seats, less customer service, no TVs you can watch on board long ass flights from Phoenix to Raleigh. More delays and cancellations on average. I don't know that you're the worst airlines around but you're definitely worse than Delta...

All this does is further highlight how inefficient unchecked capitalism is. If they actually invested that bailout money correctly. They would have the staffing in place to mitigatw some of this. But a lot of it is due to the weather which is a natural phenomenon. But flight delays and cancellations has been a problem that has only been growing over the past few years. They're trying to do more with less and still reap the benefits

Generally speaking, El Paso is what you just explained; an extension of Ciudad Juarez. My wife is from Juarez. I loved it there though. I’m from Detroit, but I consider El Paso my second home. We bought a house on the West Side right off of Transmountain in the new development by the hospital. Cimmaron Area. Left for Arizona last year. With the current real estate market and upcoming recession, I’m going to be in Arizona for the foreseeable future. Now is not the time to be moving and trying to buy/sell a house.

Regarding El Paso, what I liked…

-The weather. It being the High Desert, it’s cool/fresh at night, but warm during the day. It hardly rains. It’s called “Sun City” for a reason.

-Lower cost of living.

-The safest large city in the country.

-Never experienced any racism or funny acting people. The people are kind, humble, and courteous, unlike the West Coast and East Coast.

-Beautiful landscape, scenery, mountains, and sunsets.

-You can go from the hot desert to snowy pine tree forest in one hour. Drive from El Paso to Alamogordo and head to Ruidoso/Lincoln National Forest.

-It’s a big city with a small town vibe.

Disliked…

-It’s SOOO fukking isolated from all other large cities. Tucson 4 hours away. Phoenix 6. Albuquerque 5. Denver is 10. It’s Texas, but San Antonio is 7 hours, Dallas is 9, and Houston is like 12.

-No major league professional sports. You’ve got UTEP, The Chihuahuas (San Diego Padres minor league team), and that minor league soccer team. Chihuahua stadium is a VERY nice stadium though.

-No big concerts or major artists really pass through there.

-The Black Population is concentrated in the Northeast.

-Houses are less expensive but the property taxes are ridiculous. That’s because there’s no Texas state income tax and it’s a border town. Your taxes go to educating the large amount of students that live in Juarez, but go to school in El Paso (they’re not supposed to do that and it’s actually fraud/illegal). Same with the hospitals.

It’s a great place to raise a family though. You either love it or you hate it. Would I ever move back? Yes. Am I in a rush to go back? No.

:gucci:

Are you telling me nobody could say "nah this doesn't make sense, let's not move these ppls luggage"

Not the pilot, admin of the airport, ceo of southwest?

:gucci:

They did this to my flight last year. Missed my connecting flight to Palm Springs because of their delays . My bags literally went all around the West Coast (Oakland, Salt Lake City, Vegas etc.) Before retrieving them finally in Palm Springs two days later :beli:
