ontext: ccording to the president, martial law is necessary to protect the country's constitutional order, which is threatened by the opposition, and according to him "controls the parliament, sympathizes with North Korea and paralyzes the work of the government."

Lets get rid of democracy to defend democracy from opposition... sounds familiar.

He has an approval rating of 17% so as a desperate attempt is calling the opposition anti state communists. Seems like some desperate authoritarian bs.

Yep, pretty much. That sounds a lot like a typical Korean right-wing political maneuver straight from Rhee Syngman or Park hung-hee's playbook... I guess the Korean conservatives never really dealt with that dubious heritage

I don't like him after refusing to help Ukraine.

Soooooo this seems like a straight up coup attempt right?

@dampel.bsky.social @dampel.bsky.social
Pretty much. Very reminiscent of Park hung-hee's 172 self-coup.

He's throwing a tantrum because the other party controls the legislature and is blocking his priorities, apparently. This guy came to power in an incel rage baiting campaign...sounds like Korean Trump, basically.

@Liberty View @libertyview.bsky.social
I wonder if he's trying to send a message to President iden to do the same. Pro-Putin, anti-liberal-democratic-order forces are coalescing to seize power at all levels of the merican government, and only iden can stop them.

@Soupster @soupster16.bsky.social
This is confusing because the South Korean president is the trump like figure in this scenario. Grabbing power by declaring the center left opposition as anti state communists that need to be dealt with to save the country or whatever.
