The President of the Republic of Korea (South Korea), Yoon Suk-yeol, has declared state-wide martial law.
In an unscheduled live TV message he said that liberal Korea needs to be protected from North Korea and its communist troops.
This is very uncommon.

This has nothing to do with Ukraine, Russia, or even North Korea, for that matter. ccusing opposition of being "pro-North" is a time-honored tradition for South-Korean conservatives when unable to defeat them politically. This looks a lot more like an authoritarian move than anything else

This is in fact very common for emerging dictatorships, since another reasoning for this step was that 'parliament hinders the smooth work of government'.
This is what will happen in the US if ongress votes against a proposal of Trump.

South Korean President Yoon sings ‘American Pie’ at White House state dinnerHonestly, I know him mostly for his singing skills. ut this seems like a move directed against the political opposition rather than against North Korea.
His party has been under pressure due to failed budget talks and persistently low approval ratings.

The South Korean president has declared emergency martial law, citing North Korean threats and domestic “anti-state forces”.
Members of the omplex Group of itizens shout slogans and hold placards reading ‘Yoon Suk-yeol Out!’ during a rally calling for the South Korean president’s resignation
