There’s a clip in the S6B opener, Soprano Home Movies’, that foreshadows the hell out of Tony’s fate at that diner. Tone’s sitting on a chair pier-side by the lake and is pretty much wrestling with his own thoughts after getting his ass handed to him by Bobby.

We see a shot of Tony’s face and then a shot of his POV of the lake. A bell nearby rings, he looks over to his right, and we see a POV of the dock with the bell. He looks forward. The bell rings again, Tony looks again, and we see the bell once more. Tony looks forward one more time and closes his eyes.

Most folks bring up the conversation where Bobby mentions you probably won’t even hear the gunshot when it happens, but I can’t find a clip of the other scene anywhere.

don’t forget when Sil was at the dinner table during that shooting and didn’t hear anything until after the guy was already shot dead.

Phil's crew folded and gave him up

hard to see them sending more hitters

after the betrayal and agreeing to pay his sister for her grievance

the viewer got killed

we were watching expecting to see the inevitable...but we got it

"probably don't even hear it when it happens, right?"
Carlo flipping was enough of a reason for New York to clip Tony. His indictment was inevitable and with all their business it would've been almost impossible for NY to not get dragged into the RICO case. Getting rid of Tony was a cheaper/cleaner option than risking him being a rat.

Who killed Tony or if he even got killed is irrelevant though, I think Chase wanted to get the point across that it was over no matter what - his inner circle was down to Paulie, everyone else either dead or flipped, the indictment was looming, the kids were all grown up, there was nothing left for Tony. Either he's murdered, rots in jail, or escapes both and dies alone like Junior.

I think he dies at the end.

The previous episode ended with the flashback of Bobby saying “you probably don’t hear it coming”. The camera cutting from Tony to what he sees at the door...and then the last shot is what he sees (all black). The whole sixth season (both parts) dealt a lot with death, it seemed like a fitting end for the show and character.

I don’t think it really is supposed to matter who killed him, if it was Butchie, and who in NJ (Patsy or Paulie) may have sold him out. With the life he lived, so many people would have reasons to want to kill him.

For whatever it’s worth, the other song on the jukebox along with “Don’t Stop Believing” is “Any Way You Want It”

After watching ‘Sopranos Home Movies’ again, yeah Tone died. Season 6B got drastically dark. The scene before the Holstens meetup we see Uncle June rotting away in that state facility. A happy ending with the family at that point was just....too good to be true. Meadow and AJ are traumatized seeing their father’s brains splattered all over them. Sheesh.

Tony’s luck may have been very damn good throughout the series, but I really think it ran out at that point.

yeah 6b is pretty profound with a lot of nuance

one of the most :wow: moments of the whole series to me was at the end of Kennedy and Heidi when Tony shouts “I GET IT!” at the sky

all those years of him roasting Chris about drug abuse and he waited until he died at his own hands to get high himself and finally understand :wow:

He could live or die, his family could do good or bad, since the show doesn't make it implicit, it's really just the end of that shot into their lives.

He's dead breh.

Watched the whole show for like 6 or 7 times. And each time I'm more and more convinced that theu "Members Only" dude killed him with the Michael Corleone Special after taking a dump.

Why? Either the NY mob didn't have time to stop all contracts on Tony or since his crew was already in the dust they decided to take control 100%.

Yeah it’s pretty obvious he died. Theres even a scene where he’s fishing with Ralphie talking about getting whacked/death and they say something like it just goes black. They left it ambiguous just to leave people talking and for controversy and maybe even reviving the series.

Payback for Phil..

Phil got whacked in a real disrespectful manner.
