Only reason that kept me from thinking Tony didn’t get killed is because the mafia’s code is to never involve family/kids. To kill Tony in front of his wife, daughter and son in the middle of a packed restaurant doesn’t make sense. If they’d kill him they’d wait til he was dolo and make his body disappear.

This is true but they killed Phill Leotardo in front of his daughter and grandkid, they had to see their dad/grandad's head run over by a car. Maybe it was like that, eye for an eye.

but Phil got killed in front of his wife and young grandchildren, so I see it as retribution.

After watching ‘Sopranos Home Movies’ again, yeah Tone died. Season 6B got drastically dark. The scene before the Holstens meetup we see Uncle June rotting away in that state facility. A happy ending with the family at that point was just....too good to be true. Meadow and AJ are traumatized seeing their father’s brains splattered all over them. Sheesh.

Tony’s luck may have been very damn good throughout the series, but I really think it ran out at that point.

Tony died

Phil's crew folded and gave him up

hard to see them sending more hitters

after the betrayal and agreeing to pay his sister for her grievance

the viewer got killed

we were watching expecting to see the inevitable...but we got it

"probably don't even hear it when it happens, right?"

Still don’t like it. Chase claimed nobody wanted to see Tony being killed because people cared about him :stopitslime: The more I’ve rewatched the show I’ve come to view Tony as less anti-hero and just see him for what he truly was, a piece of shyt.

yep I actually felt cheated out of seeing his death

but then why was the scene all set up as Tony’s POV?

bell rings at the door, cut to Tony and what he sees..this happens multiple times...on the last time, bell rings...cut to Tony and he sees black bc he was just shot in the head...

the viewer getting whacked makes sense until you look at the whole scene being from Tony’s POV

It’s all there.

Every time the door rings as someone walks into the diner, it cuts to Tony looking up and then his first person POV. On the last door ring it cuts to him looking up then all black. That’s his POV. He’s dead. Meadow walked and and saw him got shot. There’s even a reference flashback earlier in the episode by Bobby that “I bet you never even hear it” when you get shot in the head.

On repeat viewings the pattern of shots make it pretty obvious Tony is killed.
There’s a clip in the S6B opener, Soprano Home Movies’, that foreshadows the hell out of Tony’s fate at that diner. Tone’s sitting on a chair pier-side by the lake and is pretty much wrestling with his own thoughts after getting his ass handed to him by Bobby.

We see a shot of Tony’s face and then a shot of his POV of the lake. A bell nearby rings, he looks over to his right, and we see a POV of the dock with the bell. He looks forward. The bell rings again, Tony looks again, and we see the bell once more. Tony looks forward one more time and closes his eyes.

Most folks bring up the conversation where Bobby mentions you probably won’t even hear the gunshot when it happens, but I can’t find a clip of the other scene anywhere.
