So the Ruskies are gonna try to cut off western ethnic Ukraine from the black sea and either recreate a Novorossiyan puppet state or just annex it outright? What's the chances the US gets dragged into this and/or China sees this as a greenlight to put the beats on Taiwan? Hate to say it but I think pulling out of Afghanistan made the US look soft and incompetent

Putin has played this perfectly. Nordstream 2 will crater Ukraine's economy + no NATO membership due to war.

I spoke to a girl from Beijing who is adamant China will take Taiwan in two years.

US needs to fall back and stop meddling in others internal affairs though.

Even reading this sounds crazy. We really letting this man potentially take over wholeass countries.
You wanna send US troops to Ukraine to fight the Russian militarily?

No one wants to do that. Only thing the US has is sanctions but even sanctions have diminishing returns. Russia will be able to side step them to survive as they survived after 2014.

What’s good for the goose is good for the gander. America has been presenting itself as the world police and a beacon of light on a hill when it’s engaged in major geopolitical fukkery in the past.

Russia/Putin’s long game is a multipolar world where America is knocked down a peg and no longer the sole superpower. Whether this pushback on NATO will work is anyone’s guess but from the moment the West got into Ukraine this was always a potential outcome. Iirc, they were trying to pull that Donestk shyt in places like Odessa in the south of Ukraine but it didn’t materialize.

No. Of course not. Nukes changed the game so we can’t engage but it’s still surreal to watch from an optics perspective. This is like us watching Bolsonaro try to take over Peru or Bolivia. Russia is irritating as they’re a wannabe superpower that’s irrelevant if not for their oil and military. They can’t compete against China and the U.S. economically. Irony is if Russia joined the EU and became an ally to Western Europe, they’d end up gaining all the influence they wanted anyway and would be in a much better position rather than trying to stand against everyone alone.

If we didn’t expand NATO this would not had happened. How would the US react if Haiti,DR,Jamaica, Honduras and Nicaragua joined a Chinese military alliance and host bases to house Chinese troops in the Western Hemisphere while having Mexico mulling joining this Chinese military alliance? The situation in Ukraine is the Wet fault. And I’m not alone in this sentiment many realist western foreign policy thinkers in the US government think this. The problem is people in the West thing great power competitions died at the end of the Cold War. It didn’t. And we are seeing the rise of Chinas power as an example of Great Power competition is alive and well. So Russia reaction made sense it’s just 21st century people can’t fathom that great power politics from the 19th century is alive and well. Meanwhile the US exercise great power politics in the Western Hemisphere with the Monroe Doctrine.
