Makes sense for a couple of reasons...

  • Arc System Works is a small indie studio/pub that could realistically use the funding.
  • They wouldn’t have to shell out money for licenses anymore like with Dragonball
  • Sony acquired EVO and are probably looking for a dedicated fighting game studio
  • Sony owns distribution for almost all anime at this point, and has actual ownership over several, such as Full Metal Alchemist and Demon Slayer
  • Sony plans are cross-media expansion, anime fighters/rpgs, with actual anime is within Sonys wheelhouse

This is a good thing for fighting game fans, Arc System with bigger budget would be a great thing. I still really want that MHA fighter

There is a MHA fighter in the works, dropping soon, but it's in the vein of the Naruto fighting games, so...:yeshrug:

Arc Sys isn’t some small outfit they actively support or develop anywhere from 3-4 games at any point.

They haven’t paid a single cent for licenses Bamco & Cygames came to them. Why would they pa for license on a game they were commissioned to develop.

Sony has a dedicated Fighting game in SFV and the bulk of fighting games. They don’t need to capture anything when they’re already exclusive.

Sony has already closed down Japanese studios and are making a push to more western style games.
