one thing that people are also ignoring is greed.

shareholders wanting more and more. Execs wanting more and more.

So guess who gets the deavors when it's time to make cuts? Never the people who make shyt happen.

Yeah, shareholders and execs are parasites because rarely are they accountable for the decisions they make. There are probably too many decisions in gaming that is made by ignorant shareholders and execs which lead to the game not performing well. When games flop it's not them that are taking the hit, but the developers. Game development is like most jobs where front line workers can see the issues that are going to happen, but they're helpless to correct mistakes due to their message falling on deaf ears

This is what I'm thinking the true issue is. A lot of shareholder greed.

It’s not shareholder greed.

Investing 400 mil over the course of 5-7 years, then taking another 5-7 years to MAYBE make 50 mil profit is a crazy proposition. Investors aren’t wrong to start being very skeptical of this business plan.

Wolverine can’t cost triple the price of Spider-man 2. They’d make no money.

A lot of industry problems are due to shareholder greed (mtx, seasons, layoffs), but for once I agree with Meach on this one.

Cutscenes and Hollywood voice actors are a few things that could be cut to recoup some of this development money.

Some of it is on the developers as well, instead of cutscenes why not have a comic book style panel to flesh out the story. I’m assuming that would be a lot cheaper.

The majority of the budget goes towards salaries, bonuses, and other employee benefits, the difference between western developers and Japanese is that the latter pays their employees like shyt.

It was so bad the japanese government had to step in and order a mandate on increased wages

A lot of game developers were even moving to the US and UK and making twice as much

“Serkan Toto, CEO of industry consultancy Kantan Games, tells Inverse, “This is not about these companies being nice, sharing the wealth or having a change of mind as to how to treat employees. The studios don't have a choice if they want to retain their staff. Talent is very scarce in Japan in particular, a country with a rapidly shrinking and graying population that is tough on immigration at the same time.”

It’s not just about graphics and “movie style cutscenes” it’s about the increasing cost of wages, especially in major cities where these studios are located. Insomniac’s main HQ is in Burbank, CA. Rising development cost isn’t just affecting “AAA” developers its every industry and every type of game development studio is affected, whether its 10 people or 200.

Word, I get it. I want the employees to make a living.

I'm just saying that some of these games can benefit from a more stylized presentation instead of hyper realism. Not specific to Spider-Man nor Wolverine, but some shyt like Forsaken or that Immortals of Avernum (SP) could have used a little imagination.

Honestly a hyper stylized comic book style spiderman would be right up my alley.

The jump in fidelity when it comes to animation, physics, character models, environments, and etc means you need way more developers who are way more talented (expensive) to meet expectations.

Plus voice acting and smooth online play, which is crazy expensive.
