one thing that people are also ignoring is greed.

shareholders wanting more and more. Execs wanting more and more.

So guess who gets the deavors when it's time to make cuts? Never the people who make shyt happen.
Yeah, shareholders and execs are parasites because rarely are they accountable for the decisions they make. There are probably too many decisions in gaming that is made by ignorant shareholders and execs which lead to the game not performing well. When games flop it's not them that are taking the hit, but the developers. Game development is like most jobs where front line workers can see the issues that are going to happen, but they're helpless to correct mistakes due to their message falling on deaf ears

That's why I'm not opposed to them potentially splitting Spiderman 3 into 2 parts at 50 bucks.

But the price of the brick has gone up for everything and they want the same margins. shyt don't work like that.

Can someone tactfully explain how and why it's so expensive to make AAA games nowadays?
Simply boils down to resources. It takes time to code things. Ai will help though with data modeling and speeding up routine lower level work.

Also, QUALITY.

Ask the MCU.

You want good quality shyt....guess what? Gotta pay more.

Be cheap and you end up with shyt and then destroy everything you've built in one misshap.

We got to prop this up just long enough for AI to close the gap on production costs

The jump in fidelity when it comes to animation, physics, character models, environments, and etc means you need way more developers who are way more talented (expensive) to meet expectations.

Want Ruth's Chris for Great Value prices brehs

Cut the budgets too much and then the quality of the games suffer and these same execs/shareholders wonder what went wrong. :mjlol:

I miss AA games. Some jank is fine, as long as they have some heart and ambition. Budgets like that discourage risks and innovation, and push additional monetization on customers to make that back...

Man, for real. I know that technically there are still AA games being made, but that market just isn't anywhere near as large as it used to be. I'd love to go back to what we had before the current situation of games being either a giant release, or nearly invisible digital marketplace fodder, with very little in between.

That's my issue with a lot of these games. I'm glad they don't, but I would definitely have been splitting some of these huge games into multiple parts. An example was TLOU2. I would've had padded out part 1 and told Elle's story and made Part 3 the get back with Abby being it's own game. Like you mentioned $40 or $50 price tag. Gamers have gone crazy with wanting these games with the crazy graphics and wanting 50-60 hours of game play while also not wanting to pay extra. As a studio I'm trying to maximize profits.

At the old software company I worked at we stayed giving free shyt away to our customers. I was the a$$hole behind the scenes saying we're passing up some great revenue opportunities. That eventually caught up to em and they ended up having to lay off a bunch of people. None being the decision makers who couldn't see the expenses creeping up.

What's funny is they'll get a quick infusion of cash off top from GTA6 royalties. That game will EASILY do 1 billion in revenue Day 1. Vast majority of sales on PS5. With their 30% cut....easy 300 mill.

They'll more than likely have the exclusive marketing rights for it so who knows how much that will cost tho

Yep, Sony gonna eat off GTA6. They’ll probably treat it how they treated Hogwarts
