As much flac as the PS3 gets, its neck and neck with the 360 which had a whole year head start of being the only generation system at the time. Had the PS3 dropped first it wouldn't have even been a contest.

considering the regular xbox FLOPPED, and ps2 is the best selling of all time i dont get this logic; even sony doesn't agree with you.

so 360 is a little over 70 million & PS3 is at 70 million, but it SEEMS like everybody and their mama has a 360 and the market still caters 360

360 dominates in the US that's why, Ps3 dominance is in Japan and random countries. plus 360 has a better attach rate with games.

it'll be interesting to see the black friday christmas sales,

PS3 dominates worldwide which is better than the US that Xbox dominates. Also the attach rate on the 360 is higher because there's only 3 games that's worth buying for the system overall so every year that M$ churns out another one Xbox owners have no choice but to flock to it. It's simple match.

Multiplats are better on PC and are fine on PS3 so there's no advantage to the 360 plus you have to pay hundreds of dollars a year to play online(XBL, service fees for apps, controller batteries, headsets etc.)

:rudy: I dont even use my ps3 that shyt collects dust cause multiplats are damn near useless with that 20 b.c online setup.

PS3 is a financial failure. It only sold half of the units than the PS2 at the same point of its lifespan.

Can i please have a source for this ridicilous statment. ps2 is the greatest selling system of all time. If ps3 ate their budget and all ps2 profits they would have discontinued the ps3 a long time ago.
Well sir, sony was on the VERGE of abandoning the ps3.
What they did was pay Konami to secure MGS4 as exclusive.
Konami said it had to sell 1million copies to remain exclusive, sony agreed
MGS4 did increase sales.. it was a system seller as how they call it
But it wasn't enough to bring them from the brink of elimination.
So what did they do? They began to lie. It started with CES.. actually, it started before the ps3 even dropped. They said the ps3 was the only system that can do "Tru HD"
It would be out in the spring (came out that winter)
it would have all this extra shyt that it didn't. All this to keep you on the hook
Thats why this entire gen all you see them doing is adding stuff xbox already had
Or trying to 1up an idea that was already on xbox. Like League Pass n shyt when xbox was only focusing on things like netflix/etc.
Competition is cool in that way.. now league pass is on xbox.
Only thing sony tried to do on its own (sorta) was HOME which is a joke

hell no nikka. it's just the fakkit japs who closed the lead. psfags are down everywhere else.

Thats not actually true either. Yes, xbox's didn't sell well in japan
Whats not being talked about is how ps3's didn't sell well in japan either
And they still not selling well there, neither is the Vita...
Everybody reports shipped last I knew. Honestly how would any of these companies know the exact number of consoles sold in stores? That would mean every single company that sells their consoles would have to consistently report back how many all their stores sold.
You ain't NEVER hear that you lying bastid, we had this talk on SOHH before and you was saying the same bullshyt.
As for how could they keep track? You think they don't keep track of how many systems they make :wtf:
How can sony say how many was shipped if they didn't keep track?
Now if you talking about stores keeping track, well it would take longer to get results back that way, correct?

So then why does sony always wait til AFTER that to release its numbers?
You can't be this stupid if a lightbulb didn't just go off in your head...
Sony lost at least 4.5 billion dollars on the ps3. This is all well known.
m.joystiq.com/2008/08/19/the-sony-reciprocal-ps3-losses-surpass-ps2-profits/

The ps3 was never gonna turn a profit they're just trying to cut into the losses at this point.
Or maybe 2 1/2years ago they started turning a profit...

Cuz I got even more FACTS for tat azz...
so the Wii is the best selling console this gen? duly noted
Well, the gamecube was the only system to turn a real profit last gen :leon:
I'm sure sony has NOW after the fact, but back then only nintendo was making money off systems. Now ya know!!!
The problem with system sales and nintendo is they really not going after the same market (this gen)
They not even in it. There system isn't qualified to be called a next gen system
The Wii was a last gen system with a new controller tacked onto it
Spec wise, its barely more powerful than the cube (tru story)

Gamers, and mostly fanboys I'm talking about here. The ones who loved nintendo?
They didn't care, and they still say it sold the best. But thats like comparing the sales of the iPhone to a walkie talkie
Yeah, it sold great and fast. But its already dead because it didn't appeal to the average gamer. So bringing up sales for the wii is irrelevant because the wii isn't competing with the xbox/ps3
Now ps3 heads, when talk of the xbox dominance, they would also bring up wii sales like if that lessons the blow :bryan:
Didn't know PS3 has inched so close to Xbox in total sales. Looks like they passing them in a couple of months then.. I know the box is strong in USA but here in Europe, it's the PS3 or nothing breh. Everyone that had an xbox when it came out has already made the switch, it's flabby and sick status over here

I don't think I know or even heard a dude with an xbox in years
Funny, I got ppls in Europe who say the same about the ps3
This next post should shed some light on that...
Too bad Sony is still losing money on the PS3...lol

And sadly no one buys games for the triple, hence the reason Sony is still losing money like its going out of style.
You just touched on some really incriminating info for sony. You see, these companies don't make money off of games. They make money off of hardware
So then, why would sony be losing money NOW if they was selling systems at a similar pace as the xbox?
The xbox is the ONLY system to still have sales increase year after year
If sony was keeping up, they too would be having increasing sales year after year
They started making a profit almost 3yrs ago, how could they be losing money now unless :cape:
Yup, somebody lying. Is it that hard WINB to figure this out???
I only been drilling all you guys on this shyt for how long, how many years now?
Cockmeatstradamus :stylin:
Shut up
so 360 is a little over 70 million & PS3 is at 70 million, but it SEEMS like everybody and their mama has a 360 and the market still caters 360
You'd think the market would cater to the more popular system. Ps3 since it released must be the more popular system since they keep outselling the xbox
Oh wait, they not :stopitslime:

In fact, the xbox on average is now more expensive than the blu-ray ps3
So games are not selling, systems are not selling, but its maintaing with the xbox?
Either that is true, or sony is doing something uncharacteristic and is lying

Which one is it :usure:

Or maybe your simply and idiot :damn:
You see my highly intelligent friend, games attached rate means just that
How many games per system is sold on average.
See, what your saying is there will be at least 3 great xbox games a year

Ok, so what about sony? You making it seem like you have all these great choices on a system you yourself said you "threw in the bushes" :krs:
You buy those great games, and the attach rate goes up
But the problem is nobody is buying ps3 games. Thats why Unpolished never took off
Had Mowgli talkin bout "I got other games before I get to that" like if unpolished wasn't the "it" game for the system.
I tell you what, you name the game that sold equal to Halo 4's first days sales in its total lifetime on ps3
Cuz Unpolished is still in the low 1mil range :weirdo:
Twisted Metal, didn't break a half a mil last time I checked
Keep naming these so called AAA titles and you'll see the same results
Come on.. name just 1 game and GT5 does not count.
Its not even the best looking/playing thanks for Forza
I'm waiting tho...

Unbalanced 3 has sold a TON of copies by now. Day one it sold 3.8 million copies son. Sony "sells" the store the copies since they can't just "send" games over to them so the "ship" numbers are actually sold numbers.

Halo 4 sold a few million but that's because Xbots were starved for 5 years for a legit halo game because Reach was underwhelming and left a bad taste in the mouth of gamers. People got scared because they thought Halo franchise was going to be defunk in the near future.

Halo 4 came out and it offered a much more cinematic campaign and COD influenced MP that sadly doesn't live up to it's predecessors. :heh:
:smugfavre:

Gears of War 3..............*crickets*
Uhh it's like 72 people playing it right now.

Its funny because in other competitive arenas its considered normal to care who is having the most success but here its not. A Lakers fan doesn't play for the team nor do they make any money if the Lakers make the playoff or win a championship (unless they bet on sports). Some people liked WWE and some like WCW back in the day some like Ford, some like Chevy. some people like Android and some like iOS. having some type of brand preference is pretty normal for an informed customer.

I care about sales numbers because when its competitive these companies work harder for gamers' dollars and work harder to differentiate their brands. i'm the type of gamer that buys all the consoles so i have no stake in who comes out on top. i prefer to see them all do well.

Comparing sports to companies is a fukking stupid comparison. Sports is meant for fans to "cheer" and support their favorite team. Dumbest comparison i've seen in a minute...

they all report shipped. the all consider a console sold when a retailer buys it from them or do you honestly believe that all these companies know how many consoles are sitting on retailer's shelves waiting to be sold to a customer vs having actually being purchased by a customer at that point of sales?

yeah every single retailer in this country phones back to the big 3 and says we bought x amount of consoles from you and our customers purchased y so we got z amount sitting on our shelves. and they all churn through the numbers and some up with a number all their retail partners actually sold to customers just to appease the fanboys.
MSFT Annual Report 2011
look at the language in this report. we "shipped" x ammount of xbox 360s.

the losses on the PS3 totaled higher than the entire profit run from the PS2. they may be making a profit on each console sold now but if you started out 4.5 billion in the red and you make a small profit on each console now you may very well make money on a per console basis now but you are still in the red overall till you make back that 4.5 billion in total you haven't made any real profit.

why do brands exist? is it not to attract customers? do makers not make brands to differentiate their product from other products? does that not make it a competitive arena by default?

sports teams exist to attract fans. brand names exist to attract customers. shyt is Pepsi vs Coke. its normal for people to develop preferences and brand loyalty. i get it you're one of the high and might Rodney King can't we all just get along above the fray gamers and that's fine but don't act like people having brand preferences and developing attachments to their favorite brands is somehow unusual or unheard of.
