Didn't know PS3 has inched so close to Xbox in total sales. Looks like they passing them in a couple of months then.. I know the box is strong in USA but here in Europe, it's the PS3 or nothing breh. Everyone that had an xbox when it came out has already made the switch, it's flabby and sick status over here

As much flac as the PS3 gets, its neck and neck with the 360 which had a whole year head start of being the only generation system at the time. Had the PS3 dropped first it wouldn't have even been a contest.

Its funny because in other competitive arenas its considered normal to care who is having the most success but here its not. A Lakers fan doesn't play for the team nor do they make any money if the Lakers make the playoff or win a championship (unless they bet on sports). Some people liked WWE and some like WCW back in the day some like Ford, some like Chevy. some people like Android and some like iOS. having some type of brand preference is pretty normal for an informed customer.

I care about sales numbers because when its competitive these companies work harder for gamers' dollars and work harder to differentiate their brands. i'm the type of gamer that buys all the consoles so i have no stake in who comes out on top. i prefer to see them all do well.

At least read the 5 year old links you post. It claims it 3 billion and it's been 5 years and been selling well. PS3 is well in the green.

It's a 2008 article. Sony continued to sell the PS3 at a loss well into 2010 and the didn't start turning a profit till mid 2010(may be a bit earlier I'm not sure about the exact quarter). There was a chart floating around on neogaf showing that between R&D costs and selling the console at such a huge loss that the PS3 wiped out all of the PS2 profits and well into the PS1s. I don't have time to dig up all of those old ass links, but Sony's Gaming division is profitable right now it's their TV division that's bleeding them. Samsung and LG are eating their lunch. Plus they still have to contend with Samsung/HTC/Apple etc. in the mobile sector after being slowed down by the Sony/Ericsson partnership for so long. Sony can turn it around, just gonna take some restructuring. I expect the PS3 and 360 to cross the 100 million mark within the next 3-4 years.

The expensive DVD player 360 only has good games once or twice a year when it's exclusive titles release and then everyone stops playing them a few months down the road. Honestly, all the 360 got in the past few years was a few dashboard updates and Halo 4, Gears 3 and Call of Duty Modern Ops 2.3.

360 came out a year in advance not to mention people buying multiple systems cause of the rrod. So in reality ps3 should have a bigger lead.

As you'll see, there is no mention of sales because sony doesn't report sales. They report shipped. You think them not showing the Vita's sales is something new
They have always did this (well, at least when they losing they do this)
But here's the part that should wake you up and

If the xbox is the only console in console history to increase its sales for 6 straight years. Then how could a ps3 that has fallen off keep pace?
Wouldn't there be a mention of how the ps3 also broke such a record since its still neck n neck with the 360?
