I dunno how long it takes to make these games these days I wouldn't be surprised if some bullshyt popped off like that. I would rather them release it when it's fully completed and not some parts bullshyt. Because if the reception is bad on part 1 I guarrantee that ain't coming out with a part 2.
If the first part is trash, they'd be in critical condition and they would HAVE to deliver with Part 2, and that's me being optimistic. If Part 2 is trash, they're better off canceling the entire thing. People are not playing when it comes to this remake.
This ain't the PS1 days breh. The detail in which Final fantasy 7 to execute perfectly I think the parts would take longer than 2 and a half years. I mean look at Kingdom Hearts 3 shyt was introduced beginning of this gen released towards the end.
KH3 was originally supposed to come out earlier than it did, but they had an engine switch and had to start from scratch on Unreal Engine. They were using their own proprietary engine called Luminous Engine, but because the shyt was so difficult to use, they jumped ship in favor of an engine that's widely used and actually produces results in a timely manner. So we could've gotten KH3 late 2017 - early 2018 if all had aligned perfectly.
Matter fact, that's how Final Fantasy XV ended up taking Ls, it was because of that same engine. That's why Square is using Unreal Engine for the remake and most likely for all future titles because their development cycle is absolute trash.
