Both the Xbox One and PS4 use x86 cpu architecture which is the same as your standard desktop or laptop. The Xbox 360 was power pc cpu based and so was the PS3's cell cpu. That was also Power PC based. Think about how PC's can play older games no problem. Since the PS5 and the next Xbox are using X86 it mean backwards compatibility will always be a thing. The PS2 had a PS1 chip inside and the original PS3 had a PS2 chip inside because each system used something different. What is funny is that the original Xbox was based off x86 architecture and then they switched to Power PC for the 360. The benefit of using x86 is it makes porting games between platforms extremely easy.

It makes sense, because the same applied to The Last of Us Part 1, that one was a swan song for the PS3 and then the remastered version for PS4 came shortly after.

It's pretty much guaranteed that the FF7 Remake is gonna be cross-gen. If the game is supposed to drop next year potentially (who knows), there's no reason why they won't make it a cross-gen title. Plenty of fans are gonna opt for the latest version just out of hype and wanting the best. Even if they were to come out the blue and say the remake is dropping this year (:mjlol:), I definitely see them doing a PS5 version. Especially considering that's only Part 1 of how many games to come.

I still gotta play Horizon, but I've heard nothing but great things and I also gotta finish God of War, but I can see their sequels being cross-gen depending on when they drop.

The next Spider-Man game is going to be a problem, if there's such a huge improvement with it just running on the PS5 alone, I can only imagine what Insomniac's been able to do since I would assume they'd have a dev kit and probably had one for quite some time now.

Persona 5 Royal is most likely cross-gen, just like how the OG P5 was. Persona 6 is most likely going to be on the PS5 a good ways in.

And... Maybe Bloodborne 2 if they ever announce that? That's gotta be coming sooner or later.

For some reason if this FF7 remake is a thing I can see them doing some bullshyt where part 1 would be ps4/ps5, part 2 ps5/ps6 and part 3 ps6/ps7. It seems like it's taking them quite a bit to get part 1 out.

Xbox isn't fully compatible though. There are still a shyt load of games that you can't play from xbox 360 and the og Xbox. Some you might not ever be able to play because of licensing. Xbox only added that feature to play nice because of the shyt storm they got at launch. If there wasn't hell for them to pay best believe they wouldn't have added this feature.

If Square Enix EVER decided to pull some bullshyt like that, they'd not only lose respect, good will and faith from their consumer base, but their stocks would plummet. Investors would not be cool with them fukking around like that. That's why they've been so quiet when it comes to this game, it's sink or swim for them. If the remake is garbage, it's a wrap on their credibility, nobody's going to trust them ever again. Double if they try to pull some nonsense with distant release windows and multiple console versions. They already have a bad reputation of announcing games too early, they move shyt to the PS6 and you can kiss their respect goodbye. Another company who's willing to listen to the consumers and has talented minds with capable employees will take their place.

I dunno how long it takes to make these games these days I wouldn't be surprised if some bullshyt popped off like that. I would rather them release it when it's fully completed and not some parts bullshyt. Because if the reception is bad on part 1 I guarrantee that ain't coming out with a part 2.
