do you really not recognize that any statement that begins with "b-b-but.." is probably sarcasm? :usure:

Had my ps3 for about 5 or 6 years and I've never used the blue player.....shyt I wonder if it works

As long as your PS3 still goes through them regular software updates, your blu-ray player will always get updated as well.

tell me in what area, hd-dvd was really winning :heh:

That just physical specs, Hd-dvd had better online features then the java enable Blu-ray at the time. Plus they was about to introduce triple layer 51GB hd-dvd disc.

Assuming im a stan... Hd dvd was never in play for gaming, it was for video and was neck and neck with blu ray. sony had marketshare due to being included with ps3 but stand alone hd dvd players were way cheaper. the reason they lost in the end is because toshiba expected microsoft to include hd-dvd in the new xbox and they didnt to keep cost down.

jesus christ, marie. you really hittin me the xbox live defense. how much "online features" do you need to watch a movie. what are these better online features and how would they make your viewing a movie any better?

panasonic and sony are creating 300gb bluray disc. they're working hard to fight against digital download takeover and i applaud them for it. being able to put entire seasons of a show, or trilogies of a movie on 1 disc, entire video game libraries. :wow: compressed audio would be a thing of the past.

but in the end, M$ woke up and realized they needed the BD drive. so y'all get to really eat this next gen as well :myman:

in what area was HD-DVD superior to Blu-ray. lets stick to your original point. who cares if hd-dvd players were cheaper when you had to buy them separately?

Man wow you are on blu-rays nuts are you. This has nothing to do with "xbox live" keep your PS stanning in the game threads mmkay. The only reason blu-ray won was because of the ps3. The ps3 was selling to mostly av enthusiast because it was the cheapest and best blu-ray player in the era of $1000 blu-ray players. Hd-dvd was actually out selling blu-rays at first. And what I mean by online features was the interactive features that actaully work on hd-dvd. At the time blu-rays online features didn't work well.

see how you skipped over every question i asked? lets rewind for a second, you said hd-dvd had better online features (the xboxlive defense), so tell me what were these better online features and why were they necessary to view a HQ movie? hd-dvds have dedicated servers or something? :pachaha:

i don't know about the first year because i didn't buy ps3 immediately but my blu-rays came with functional online features. all of which were pretty unnecessary when you just want to watch movie. at anyrate, you complaining about some bullshyt like online features when blu-ray had more studio support, more disc and video capacity and came right out of the ps3 box, shows how delusional you fanboys really are :umad:

That was my only point, it could have been the standard, it had the support to succeed and released first plus didn't need additional fabrication and but the fact that ms didn't include it in their system effectively killed it. Standalone players for blu ray and hd dvd had trouble catching on because no standard was established. You could have had a million plus hd dvd players in homes with the 360 which would have made this a real media war. That really was the only point I was making, fact is, I enjoyed my blu rays and didn't really care which one won. But it could have gone either way honestly.

not really in fact it was a dumb idea to buy a PS3 as a Blu-Ray player because the price on them fell pretty quick and if that's all you wanted it for just being patient would have got you better.
The prices on Blu-ray players did NOT fall pretty quick :wtf:
It was like 2yrs later. Companies was ready to, but SONY wouldn't allow other companies to sell them for cheaper than PS3 because sony had to basically FORCE people to buy PS3 by doing that.
PS3 was cheaper, and it doubled as a gaming machine so why not buy that. This console war is not even close for real :bryan:
But now I'm going off topic...
update it then you lazy ass nikka
Unless its Forza 5, then updating via a gaming console is bad all of a sudden :stopitislime:
It is bad if you have to update your non videogame features to work. I don't need to update an xbox to play a DVD
What about the people who don't have internet like that, you know, the people who would be left out if the XB1 had online check-ins? How are those people gonna use there Blu-ray movies?
Please don't ignore this, I am one of those people so this is life or death for me :to:
b-b-but what about people in submarines
:dead:
xbots should stick with dvd, they swore up and down blu-ray was a fad and would die out
DVD is still the more popular medium which means this is the first time the upgrade has failed to beat out the previous medium. And with Digital Downloads, blu-rays will be extinct before this gaming gen is done.
Are you stupid or dumb? How I know? 4K movies will be out NEXT YEAR. Streaming ONLY
They say its not even a feasible option for Blu-rays. But I'll let you act like you know anything...

nikka, why you posting up dumbass charts n shyt. Obviously you have no idea what happened.
If you did, you woudn't need a chart. You could just tell me. I'll tell you. HD-DVD was the more advanced medium because it had certain codecs blu-rays didn't have and couldn't use until HD-DVD gave up.
They also didn't come with internet capabilities, so the original blu-rays are not even compatible with later versions :wow:
HD-DVD's always had internet for updating. There was a few other things as well, instead of looking for bullshyt charts you should of google the actual question. Its not hard to find bruh. You just didn't look :snoop:

That isn't the reason they lost in the end. Has nothing to do with it, and Toshiba never thought Microsoft was gonna include HD-DVD in Xbox 360. HD-DVD was winning the head to head battle, then sony paid off 2 movie companies and thats how it ended. I can even tell you what they did.

They got on a plane some execs for some company I can't recall right now. They told HD-DVD or whatever they would sign with HD-DVD. On that flight, sony made a deal with Warner Bros and paid them like 400,000 or more if they went to Blu-ray. Same with a 2nd company. Once that plane landed, a news conference was set up to reveal the HD-DVD deal but that conference was cancelled. The rest is history. I'll look it up right quick...

Blu-ray Wiki said:
The fatal blow came on January 4, 2008 when Warner Bros., which has the largest market share of DVDs, announced plans to drop HD DVD support completely as of the beginning of June 2008. At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, some HD DVD-related events and private meetings with analysts and retailers were canceled, including an event scheduled for the eve of the show sponsored by the North American HD DVD Promotional Group.
That event that was cancelled was supposed to be them announcing a new deal with HD-DVD but sony paid them off at the last minute.

Warner Bros killed HD-DVD when they went Blu-Ray exclusive. the PS3 heavily contributed to HD-DVD's downfall as well. the Xbox wasn't a power brand at the time of HD-DVD's creation. it had sold 20 something million units so looking at it reasonably there was no way the 360 could have been projected to be as successful as it was and power HD-DVD when the PS2 sold like 120 million.
