i'll admit the Halloween trailers did a good job of hitting all the points to make your expectations thar you're getting a halloween finale....but :hhh:

wow @ lyle lye holding strong...but i suppose it makes sense, it's the only family friendly flick out for counter programming

I can't blame Universal. They had to sell their movie. :hubie: I guess they aren't hands-on in the production, they just distributed this trilogy. This was all Gordon Green and Blumhouse fukkin around. :snoop:

Far as horror goes, Terrifier 2 suppose to be off the damn chain. I might have to look into that one.

The horrid word of mouth all around-I’ve seen it on Twitter, from folks I know and follow on social, on this very forum lol-had to have had an effect on Halloween Ends’s opening box office. Me and mines were all ready to go see it at the show, but alas, it’s gon be a Peacock watch for later this week.

I’ll just put that dough to Black Adam next weekend. Personally I wanna see it do buku box office, though looking at the seats on Atom, there’s not the biggest sense of urgency to catch it right away for a lot of people. Maybe good word of mouth, and the much teased Superman cameo, will help the film have legs

The fact that Blumhouse is giving DGG & McBride the keys to direct a requel trilogy to The Exorcist after this fall-off is :hhh:

Halloween (2018) earning 160mil off of a 10mil budget got them earning extra lives, I guess. On another note, Terrifier 2 was a great watch in theaters and I’m glad it got the shine.

Art the Clown stole the thunder from Michael this year. :manny:

I didn't realize it was Blumhouse throwing a bag at DGG. The Exorcist was a Warner Bros. and Fox property. Now Universal has the rights and they literally running the same playbook. After each Halloween grossed less on opening weekend, domestically and worldwide. :wow:

I didn't see The Terrifier 1 or 2 but I know it was Corey the Copycat who stole the thunder from Mike this year. :mjlol:

I LIVE IN A CARDBOARD BOX!
Smile is still doing fantastic. Not bad for a film that they were originally going to release on Paramount Plus.

  • Top Gun: Maverick
  • The Lost City
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2
  • Scream
  • Jackass 4ever
  • Smile

Chalk another win for Paramount. It's done well this year, but I guess the only time the majority notice when a studio does good is only when Disney does it.

Nobody’s adaptation is touching Friedkin’s, but I’m shocked they didn’t give someone like Mike Flanagan or Ti West the nod. Find it hard to believe DGG/McBride will respect the original material and not add unnecessary comedic quips in something as serious as an Exorcist property. :francis:

What's at the Movies this Weekend? Oct. 21-23

This weekend sees the debut of The Rock's Black Adam 4,402 theaters. I think I may skip the projections cuz these algorithms be getting shyt wrong all the time. But I saw $63M as the number. That's $2M more than Doctor Strange 2 did in it's second weekend. But I'm sure Warner Bros. will take it.

I'm sure you've seen the trailer by now. It's been everywhere. But, for consistency's sake here it is.

It's got a 40 on Metacritic but Jeremy Jahns says it's a good time, no alcohol required. His review:

Halloween Ends continues to play in 3,901 theaters. After a $40M debut weekend, it currently stands at $45.1M domestically. Watch out for that second weekend horror drop that's usually around 65%. Halloween kills saw 70.8% decline in its second weekend last year so look for something in that ballpark; probably worse if we being honest. Evil dies this weekend :damn:

This weekend sees the domestic debut of the George Clooney and Julia Roberts romantic comedy, Ticket to Paradise. It's already made $74.9M internationally. George Clooney, You salt and pepper son of a bytch.

The Cate Blanchett vehicle, Tar, goes wide-ish at 600 theaters. Blanchett plays the fictional Lydia Tar, one of the great conductor-composers of this diagetic world. It's a 2 hour and 38 minute drama that looks like it's in the vein of Black Swan.

Black Adam Rock Bottoms the Box Office; Is The People's Champion: Weekend Box Office Results (Oct. 21-23)

9IQ1Wb.gif

Do you smell what the rock is cooking? He and Black Adam are cooking up $67M at the box office this weekend. Hey, critics, with your 40 Metacritic score, what do you think of that?

it-doesnt-matter-what-you-think-the-rock.gif

You can Take that 40% on rotten tomatoes... Shine it up real nice... Turn that sonbytch sideways and stick it straight up your candy ass! The People's Champion just dropped the People's Elbow with an Audience Score of 90%.

therock-wrestling.gif

Let's take a look at the daily box office performance starting with the Thursday previews. Black Adam made $7.6 million on Thursday. It made $19.1M on Friday. $23.7M on Saturday. That means that Black Adam was actually up 24% on Saturday. The Rock with the rare debut where Saturday outperforms Friday. Sunday took in another $16.6M in ticket sales.

That $67M debut is the best for a Rocky Johnson led movie and even better than the $63M projection. It also gives The Rock his second number one movie this year, as Black Adam joins DC League of Super Pets, which debuted to $23M in July.

This is also the 7th best opening weekend for a DCEU movie, right behind Aquaman's $67.8M in 2018. That movie would go on to gross $335M domestically and $1.1B worldwide. We'll see what kind of heights Black Adam can reach. As it stands now, Warner Bros has to thank the millions and millions of Rock's fans all over the world as Black Adam grossed $73M internationally for a total of $140M worldwide.

You cac critics keep hating :umad:

provoking-black-adam.gif

Taking second place was the George Clooney / Julia Roberts Rom-Com, Ticket to Paradise with $16.3M. and it already made $80.2M internationally; it currently sits at $96.6M. It grossed $1.1M in Thursday previews and $5.3M on Friday (minus previews). That means, like Black Adam, it grossed more on Saturday, with $6M. Good for you, George, but you might wanna make another Nespresso commercial. I just saw Brad Pitt drinking espresso from a DeLonghi. Watch out. He's coming for your coffee commercial crown.

haha-george-clooney.gif

Keep laughing. It's already happening.

Taking third place was Smile. You heard that right. Not Halloween Ends but Smile in it's fourth weekend with $8.3M. The Paramount horror flick is holding steady, with another 33.5% decline this weekend and it's currently up to $84.3M domestically. $100M is right around the corner. It's already sold $166.2M worth of tickets worldwide. :banderas:

creepy-smile-smile.gif

Falling all the way from a first place debut to fourth place was Halloween Ends with $8M. That's an 80% decline. :picard: Evil has officially died tonight. :wow: That was worse than Halloween Kills' 70.8% decline in its second weekend. :banderas:

And that decline was with no change in theater counts. People weren't tryna go see :flabbynsick: Mike get punked in the sewer. I don't blame them.

Despite the decline, the movie is still a commercial success. Probably thanks to the misleading commercials. :dead:It's now grossed $54.1M after it's second weekend, down from Kills' $73M. Worldwide, it's limply slashed it's way to $82M.

halloween-ends-halloween.gif

Looking a lil crispy there, Mikey. Word to Bussa Bus. Evil grinds tonight. :damn:

Rounding out the top five was Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile with $4.2M. After three weeks, It's now grossed $28.7M domestically and $37.1M worldwide. That's all I got for you on this one. :manny:

waving-lyle.gif

Keep it up, Lyle and you might push Mike outta the top five next week.

Notables Outside the Top Five

Another horror movie, Terrifier 2, finished in the top ten, with $1.8M from only 755 theaters. It's now up to $5.2 this Halloween season.

For the first time in it's seven weekends, Barbarian finished out of the top ten. It's $589K was good for eleventh place. It's now crossed the $40M mark domestically at $40.1M. It makes it HBO debut next week.

Screenshot-20221023-003000.png

⭐⭐⭐1/2 is high praise for a horror movie and far and away the best rating for one this year. @Lootpack you agree with that?

For the first time in it's 22 weekends, Top Gun: Maverick has failed to finish in the top ten. It finished in 15th place, it's lowest position so far, with $260K. It's now up to $716.2M domestically. shyt may never come to Paramount+ at this rate as long as it's still pulling in six figures going on six months. :ehh:

Definitely. Barbarian isn’t my favorite horror release this year but I can see why others have put it up there as their #1. Great tension building, comedic moments actually hit, and the sound design contributed greatly to the atmosphere. Cregger did well for a directorial debut; I could tell how much he drew inspiration from Raimi with the larger-than-life direction. Word of mouth for it seemed just as strong as The Black Phone’s too.

The back-half was where I felt things got shaky though. Felt like the film was building up to something truly special only resort to a sub-plot that’s been done before. If the writers fleshed that bit out, it would without a doubt be my favorite horror of the year.

Please don’t click if y’all haven’t seen it yet, but…

Casting Bill Skarsgard as the red herring was a dope, clever move. :pachaha:

Considering his past role as Pennywise in Muschietti’s IT adaptation, I’m sure it had many folks fooled when it turned out he wasn’t the big bad evil of the story.
