In 99, Sonic.
Mario 64 revolutionized 3D platform games and the camera systems third person games use. Sonic Adventure’s overworld setup was better though and the multiple characters added a wider variety of gameplay.

Adventure 1 is a childhood defining game for me.
It was magical in ’99.
SA1&2 is the last time we see Sonic as a franchise console-carrying IP.
Mario 64 wasn’t perfect either, but people will gloss over it's flaws while magnifying Sonic's.
I respect the ambition of the Adventure Team and this is the last time I liked ALL the voice actors.
I haven't liked any of the newer VA's for Sonic lol
Crush40 OST crazy.
Still the best 3D level design in the franchise; only Generations comes close.
Boost Gameplay made Sonic lazy.
Running through Station Square HubWorld and the NPC’s having different dialogue depending on where the story is,
This game, especially for a Sonic game, deserves more respect honestly.

But isonic adventure holds much more fond memories for me. I used to love that game. Still enjoy going back to play it every once in a while.

Mario 64 didn't age as well as some of y'all are making it seem.
No Sonic game is or was better than Super Mario 64. At any point ever.
