Facts, just had performance bonus review meeting

Reviewed all my work as an engineer who is also doing underpaid project manager work
Result: Meets expectations.
So I ask why? They said nah nah we like you, you've been producing but it's time to lead the dept.

Lol so on top of the micro-aggressions, the information isolationism, stagnant bureaucracy, the additional bs work no one wants to deal with,
I still have to produce and lead product campaigns. Which I do.

Now You want me to revamp AND lead MY dept? with no support? for the same pay?

LMAO that's why my corporate OGs say to just keep your peace, find your lane and level, and chill.
There's even more BS at the top . Sad part is I still want to go there.
You will get there and you will handle the challenges and reap your rewards!

I know it’s tough, and I know we have to work 2x as hard to get what they get, but don’t give up. If you are capable and in those spaces, your presence is needed and necessary.

Over 300 million people in this country. A lot of companies. Not saying all move like that. But your situation is the exception not the rule.

And white people deal with fukkery amongst themselves. Corporate culture at a lot of companies is just toxic unless you’re plugged in to the right people. And it’s cut throat.

As far as the ladder climbing be careful what you’re climbing into.
This is real, too. I’m plugged in and very comfortable at my current practice but I’m eyeing an opportunity…that will probably be a bit stressful but if I can land it, it will really put me on track to senior management down the road.

You never want to get too comfortable or complacent, but you also don’t want to chase titles just for the sake of the title.

Haven't had this issue, Got my bonuses last year and a raise. I know people who have stagnated and you can tell they're just getting by doing enough to stay out of the crosshairs but I can't operate like that. Even if the bonuses weren't as crazy as they are, I'd still want to excel out of competitive spirit alone.

I did that once. But it was for a purpose.. It just took too long. I went from supervisor to assistant manager, to general manager. The pay went from $13 an hour when I started to $55,000 a year to $65,000 a year to $91,000 a year by the time I left. I was able to flip that into an area manager position at a different company for $113,000 a year. But the process took 10 fukking years. And I'm not even in that industry anymore. I left the 2nd gig after 18 months because the work life balance was trash and the company as a whole was poorly run.

Now, I don't really advocate staying at a place for too long (5 or more years) unless it's sector that you can easily find work at. It's all a balancing act. I know people that worked in industries for well over 10 years and in the blink of an eye they get laid off. Trying to find work was hard because they held senior level positions, jobs in their industry either weren't available, or they wouldn't hire them because they were over qualified.

Depending on what industry you in, I would use working their to gain knowledge and eventually leave. Find a better situation at a competitor or start your won business. It's better to leave when you're hot instead of after they've worn you down mentally and physically.

These boys piling on you, like you ain't already know. Disingenious holier-than-thou, blacker-than-thou mfer's all of em.

Na'an one of them talmbout actual solutions, except for Daddy Trump and reparation pipe dreams.

Back on topic, the pace has picked up imo.

We been seeing Supreme Court ending Aff Action.
We got that Texas judge stopping the Fed from ameliorating centuries of oppression by offering loans (which is its own form of enslavement)

Expect West Point to fall, as well as minority set asides in Federal Contracting.

DEI is being attacked from all angles. (And they're going after sustainability as well)

This is in addition to the race hustling that's been going on.

All this is in the news. Imagine what's not getting mentioned?

In terms of what you can do - all you can do is skill up, keep your LinkedIn Active, and start getting more interviews.

If you're making offline financial moves - stock, RE, etc - of course.

You're only real out

And while all that is happening - regular degula white boys is eff'ed as well. AI is coming for my job. I was training Algo's prior to COVID.
And if its coming for my job - all these white folks I work with and my managers better get ready to work at Uber.

Black folks have this attitude that no matter what happens, white folks gon be alright.

Except that they haven't been alright since the 70's. If you're black and professional - you're dealing with the cream of the crop - (let that sink in).

Average white dude is in some red state working a BS job, hoping something is gonna happen.

Between AI and Climate Change (which affects the South, South West, and a lot of the midwest) aka the Republican Base - they don't even realize what's happening.

Race war? Civil war?

No...just no gainful work anywhere.

Da Washed up Gentleman’s club
15% raise this year based on my annual review and 10% per yearly per contract, with 2k summer bonus to play with..

Was at odds with the new head of my department until we had a conversation about travel and found he was a PPB.

I understand that glass ceiling feeling. I just get my experience, beef up my resume and bounce to higher paying position.

All started with visiting that 6 cert thread years ago.

I’d rather take a risk

I think this is the key here. Them corporations unlock doors. Get in, play the game, stack up. The problem comes in when folks don't stack up. They blow all that money instead of investing, so now you stuck.

If you ask me, everybody playing the game, not just black folks. A lot of ass kissing whites get they ass fired too. If you ain't the boss boss or the boss's kid success ain't no guarantee. A lot of people don't like the corporate world.
