It's been a few days since we've updated the latest Florida State assistant coaching rumors and developments. Here's what I can share:
— There’s rumors floating that former Oregon State running back coach Telly Lockette could be joining the staff to replace Jay Graham, who is heading to Texas A&M. Here’s what I’ve learned on Lockette; I reached out to a source this morning and was told there is mutual interest, there has been contact, but at this point nothing is finalized.
I’m told while it’s likely Lockette is on staff, it’s still unclear what position he would coach. It’s not uncommon for coaches to be hired before an exact position is designated. Mike Locksley signed on with Alabama last year in a similar scenario. Lockette could coach running backs, receivers or tight ends.
The source I spoke with said there’s no timetable to getting this deal completed. I don’t expect anything to come down this week, it sounds like something that will get done after the early signing period, during the dead period.
— As far as who Willie Taggart plans to bring with him from Oregon, I continue to hear three names.
Donte Pimpleton, he’s the current Ducks running back coach, has been on every staff of Taggart’s and played with him at Western Kentucky.
Raymond Woodie, he was Taggart’s DC his final year at USF and linebacker coach prior to that. Woodie is coaching outside linebackers at Oregon and I would expect him in the same role at FSU.
Jim Leavitt, the big thing to watch with Leavitt is head coaching opportunities. There isn't anything right now that I would link him to, but we’ll see if that changes as the carousel keeps spinning. Outside of a head coaching job, I continue to hear there’s a good chance Leavitt ends up as FSU’s defensive coordinator.
— After speaking to a source this morning, I expect FSU wide receivers coach Lawrence Dawsey to remain at FSU. It’s unclear if it’ll be on the field or off the field as support staff, but I expect Dawsey to remain with the program in some capacity.
The only two coaches that I expect to return next season are Odell Haggins and Lawrence Dawsey. At this point I can’t say that there’s anyone else returning.
— After Willie Taggart was hired I mentioned the possibility of Mario Cristobal joining the staff as Taggart’s offensive line coach. This week Cristobal was named Oregon’s permanent head coach, taking him off FSU’s coaching board. However, another name I mentioned in that same article - Larry Scott, Tennessee’s offensive coordinator - is available. He was informed on Thursday that he would not be retained by incoming head coach Jeremy Pruitt. Scott was held on at USF by Taggart when he took over Skip Holtz’ staff. Scott stayed on briefly before eventually leaving for Miami. I can confirm there is interest, but as of now there’s been no contact. Just a name to watch.
— Patience with the hiring process. I know people want to see this staff come together quickly, but due to bowl games, contracts and just the way Willie Taggart operates, I wouldn’t expect to hear about official hires until after FSU’s bowl game on December 27th. Taggart is focused on getting the right staff together, just as he’s done at his other coaching stops.

It's just going to be an all out different atmosphere in a good way with Taggart. I like the youth movement. He'll relate to the kids better. Oregon got to him. He wants FSU to wear different uniforms. Talking about having a turnover Spear, but that's wack because of UM starting it. Although and I wouldn't be surprised if it's true, FSU players asked Jimbo if they can have a turnover Spear and his hard ass said No.

This is some crazy shyt that I'm glad that Jimbo is gone. So after people telling you Charles Kelly is trash, he needs to be fired and seeing it for yourself , you keep him. But you not taking him to your new spot after saying he wasn't the problem.

I want us to rock all of the alternate uniforms. What's the sense in having them, if you don't ever use them? shyt a whole new vibe. Younger and energetic. I expect a lot of fukkery since we will be getting top recruits. A few chips or more. Expectations are really high. I believe Willie is the man to get it done.
Yeah I haven't been this excited in four years myself.

I thought he was on the way to be our WR coach? Yeah the hate is definitely more huge with UF racist ass. fukk them both, but the Gators even more.
It's going to be the 1990's all over again with all top FL schools in the top 10 or 15. I expect UM to be frauds, but their schedules are so weak that they will be ranked when we play them. UF might be a threat with Mullen. Bringing that '08 flavor back. He's looking for his Newton or Tebow. If he gets one, it's going to be a war.

It's so surreal. I mean I can't believe Dumbo is really gone. Every since last season I was like I wish this bytch would take another job. Then that contract reminded me that he wasn't going anywhere. But he did. FSU is the luckiest school on the planet to dodge that bullet. Then pick up a stud coach afterwards.
