The majority of illegal guns on American streets were acquired through a legal loophole. Nobody is building guns in their basement and nobody is smuggling guns from Canada when they can just go down to the local Walmart and get them.
The idea of the laws is to slowly reduce the amounts of these guns on the streets. Nobody has proposed going door to door taking people's guns. But guns get lost, ruined, found, turned in, ect everyday. If we put policies in place that would prevent these gun supplies from being replenished, then less guns will be on the streets.
