Those balloons were pretty smart too, if he would've gotten bigger ones and remembered to pack some helium.
Phil is the definition of a smart/lucky dude that has zero motivation or common sense. He survives the virus, made the "alive in Tuscon" signs, found a cow and still ends up burned out of his shyt and threatened with bodily harm if he steps foot in the new hood.
