For my self taught peoples that's doing web development how long did it take before you got a job, what type of projects did you have on your resume and did you have to relocate to finally get a job because you couldn't find one in your area?

Had a conversation with someone at work, who's a really knowledgeable developer. Dude understands multi-threading and multi-processing at really deep levels, so its always fun to pick his brain. But basically he mentioned that with HTTP 2.0, there's a protocol called grpc, which is a bidirectional communication protocol. Looks like its much faster than using web sockets. Its been around for a couple years, but I'm not sure how many people are aware of it.

It sounds like once it starts being commonly used, the landscape of web development might shift, at least as far as APIs. instead of having to serialize data to get into into the right format for APIs to send, we may just be able send binary data straight through. Makes me wonder what's going to happen with JSON and JSON databases

Heard about this. Using Protocol Buffers which should make performance better than RESTful with JSON. From what i heard you should be able to call methods for a remote server as if it were local. :ohhh:

Edit: Cool Link Explaining IT

Sounds like something used in a high performance networks with high throughput/low latency. Like a securities trading system or something. There's alot of bleeding edge technologies like that that can't be adopted widely yet because most people have shytty, unreliable internet.

Re-learning algorithms and data structures for this upcoming Google phone interview has been more fun than I was expecting. And it turns out that while there's a lot I have to refresh myself on, I also seem to be on the right track right away with a lot of the practice problems. It sucks that I came down with a bad cold at the wrong time and couldn't really study and practice for it the way I wanted to the past week and a half though. I hope they me postpone this phone interview a week or two. :snoop:

Though honestly, I wouldn't be too upset if I don't do well enough because I just got a promotion at my current job. Considering the fact that I like my current team, the name recognition of my current company and the pay bump on top of what I'm already making, I'm not exactly hurting to get an offer from Google :ehh:

Kinda depends on the company. On my application, all the backend is Java and the devs can barely spell Go. You may as well keep learning it and just add it to your bag of tricks.
