I see what you're saying. It is strategic, but that strategy often involves directly benefiting corporations. Guatemala just looked really ugly because the CIA Director and his brother both owned capitol stock in UFC. That and that UFC asked them directly to intervene by any means possible, but that in and of itself is not damning. Any American-based corporation on the verge of being nationalized would ask the US government for assistance. But I agree that it is a continuation of the Monroe Doctrine.
I agree and see where you are coming from. Thing is we are talking about the motivations of individual people and unless you have the Dulles brothers saying in some transcript that they were lobbying the president for intervention because of UFC then its hard or nigh on impossible to substantiate this kind of stuff. Thats just the way it is, you don't believe in stuff you can't prove.
That's also why I find it hard to debate with people on the internet (not talking about you and econ here since you two know your stuff obviously) - the fukking obsession people have with talking points violently hurts my head. People going on endlessly in depth about things that they haven't even realised may not be that relevant or are only relevant in a superficial way.
