So why are we pretending that watching Empire and Scandal are a bad thing?

Are you serious? The father is painted as an evil homophobe, he cant be faithful to cookie or his other black woman. Cookie is a sassy black woman who went to jail for drugs. One son is dating a white woman he tries to sell out to old men. Another son is all swag and shyt with mommy issues who i also think was caught cheating.

The only righteous character on the show is the gay son and that's because of the obvious agenda from the self hating man who created the show. The man himself said the show is to uncover the homophobia in the black community, this is what I mean when I say you're playing dumb "Oh there just a normal black family trying to make it work" get the fukk out of here.

Obviously not every black person on tv has to be an angel, the point is there needs to be diversity and there absolutely is none. You're addicted to ratchet shyt and you make floaty deflection excuses like "well i guess every black person on tv has to be great"

And GOT is still nothing like LOTR. Seriously diversify your palette. You sound like you've watched 5 shows in your life.

edit: oh but dont let forget. how amazing it is they gave a black woman a mental illness. fantastic.
Its no point to argue with these type of black of folks they wont even watch a postive "black film"that touch on mental issues that effect us but will make excuses of this buffoonery show as "postive"

It's ok to like the show, but let's not act like this show paints African Americans in a positive light as a whole. Same with Scandal, it's insane how powerful a woman Olivia Pope will turn into jelly to get the approval of a white man who essentially gets off on the fact that he can basically use her as a high profile pin cushion.

And to clarify, since I allowed myself to be taken on a wild tangent. Yes, I have a problem with how white folks view us. But, more importantly...

How do we see ourselves? The only images we have on TV are athletes & entertainers, which is cool... and criminals, thugs & sassy women. There are folks in this very thread that prove these images effect their psyche. Folks think Lucious is a cool, real nikka... think Cookie is a strong Black woman. That's my main problem with the show. That's why I won't support it. Not everyone's mind is strong enough watch these shows & keep it movin' in the other direction.

Folks don't recognize the agenda. It's not a mistake that we only have these images. It's not a mistake that 99% of popular hip hop is about negativity. Folks point fingers at the effects while they support the causes.

I'm not ashamed to say that I have yet to view a single episode from either program.

You like what you like:manny:
I have no problems with Empire and Scandal themselves. Im more of a Game of Thrones and BoardWalk Empire guy myself. HOWEVER, my problem, like many things i hate, is their fans flodding my FB and twitter timeline with the nonsense. Why cant people watch and enjoy a show without flooding social media with their opinions on it during the show? No really.

Ive realized i usually dont hate something until i come across the people that love it that annoy me. Especially in SPorts. I hate NY Knicks and NY Jets. Hate them to the point where I get far more joy in watching them lose than watching my own teams win. People say I just hate NY as a whole but it's not. I cant stand typical NY dudes by i looove NY women. Im also cool with a lof ot NY Giants fans. But having met Jets and Knicks fans when i was in High-school and college really made me hate these two teams with a passion.
I feel the same way about food pics and the "SCREAMING HAPPY BIRTHDAY" posts...

These shows are no different than the scandalous soaps women have been watching for decades, they just so happen to feature blacks as lead roles. I don't understand the problem

Yeah i feel you. It took me a long time to connect the dots but i eventually realized that most of the things i hate is as a result of coming into contact with the people who love them way too much

not surprised that lot of black folks got low expectation and lack an imagination hence thinking that self- destructive shows like that , are acceptable . lot of ppl on coli hold that same dysfunctional thinking

Took the words right out of my mouth.

They could of at least slip some respectable black characters in there but instead we only got bad stereotypes.

Of course HankHill being the c00n he is can't see that.

It's a show pushin' exclusively negative images of Black folks. Got you wantin' to be like Lucious when you grow up.

Cosby Show? The one starrin' a self employed doctor & his lawyer wife, livin' in a million dollar home? Yup! As if this rape story didn't surface 20+ years after the fact.

But keep writin' your little script.
Exclusively negative images of black folks? Luscious is JR. Ewing from Dallas. Why is it that as black people we have to be so much more careful about the roles we play on tv but whites can do whatever the fukk they want and not be labeled a stereotype??

Are there even any negative stereotypes for white people? I can't imagine a character that could be created for tv where might people would be like "oh that character is caters to stereotypes of white people".

I think we may have gotten to a point where we are being too hard on ourselves.

The man with the most powerful job on the planet is black. If you choose to believe more in imaginary characters on tv, maybe the problem is with the viewer.
