So what was the hype with Gears Of War?

GOW2 Classic, but the lagswitch fukked everything up. the ranking system was GOAT but the update fukked everything up
GOW3 they fukked everything up basically decided next gen was more important

Gears 2 was the worst one simply because of how retarded the nades became with the tagging and how the smoke nades would knock people down and make them have seizures



But honestly, the reason Gears as a whole became less popular is because COD came out and changed the game. There weren't any other heavy hitting online games out at the time of Gears 1's release, so everybody was on that shyt. Now there are a lot of easier alternatives and people aren't stuck with just playing Gears.

GOW2>GOW3 Easily stop it , before the update and changes gow2 was probably my fav outside of the host issues.

GOW2 was drab visually and the speed reduction wasn't helping it either. I don't remember playing Gears 2 much but I put more time in 3 though. I don't see the issue with 3 though. I hate when devs mess with the foundation of a game and change it to something else. They did that shyt with UC3 making the MP feel jarring coming from SP AND UC2.

GOW3 ruined the whole concept of GOW imo with the map set ups, stopping power downgrade, sawed off shot gun being overpowered etc. The new additions aren't even revolutionary like 1 and 2 added. not the mention the maps are no where near the caliber of gow 2, none of them are memorable . Gow 2 ranking system actually made sense before they went with the awful codesque # system. Gow2 just built upon gow 1, and gow3 went call of duty on me. if i remember correctly they actually did get rid of the seizure shyt down the line..... but you know what i loved it when they had it. you aint gon try to tell me sticking a poison nade on the wall wasn't goatesque... gow2 fukkery levels was high .

Yeah they got rid of the smokes doing work eventually, but hell, that shyt was so stupid for so long that I stopped playing for a while because of that.

Not too mention Gears 2 had the worst connection issues out of all of them

EDIT: Matter fact, most of Gears 2 matches all started the same damn way. Dudes would switch to the smokes and launch them shyts across the maps. If that shyt was near you, all hell would break loose

Dudes would be warping all over the place because of that dumb shyt

Not to mention that's the game where they introduced the nade tagging which was prime for campers and lames. Dudes would be dead within the first 20 seconds of the match, yet still getting nade kills because of where they had em tagged.

yep, when it came out it was the premier multiplayer shooter, with very little competition. I remember other than that, people were using their 360's to play Halo 2. than Halo 3 came out. and then a couple months later COD 4 crushed buildings

I owned a 360 since 2007. I sold mines at the end of 09 and ended up giving back someone's 360 I was going to keep because dude remembered I still had it. I repurchased a 360 around the time the Gears 3 beta was coming out.

gears, battlefield, call of duty & halo all share the same general target audience

of course you'll have your hardcore fans that won't dare switch to the enemy team, but for the most part, its all about who can grab the most casual fans, and then turn those casual fans into hardcore fans

unfortunately, the easiest way to create hardcore fans, is just by having the largest online player population....it'll get ppl to play your game just off the strength of a full lobby

its the madden effect (everyone owns madden, so you think twice about buying 2k even though 2k may be a better game for you)
