Just given the general state of the country.

And I mean as far as gun control, as far as abortion, as far as inflation/economy/gas prices, as far as not getting wiped out in midterms, Biden's approval rating, Ukraine/Russia, etc. Considering the current electoral situation (a far right Supreme Court that'll strike down anything they can, 50/50 Senate split with two fake Dems that won't remove the filibuster, etc.), what do you think the Democrats as a party SHOULD be doing that's actually within their power and won't either be tanked by the Senate or struck down by the Supreme Court?

I'm not being facetious either, I don't know the answer. At this point it kind of seems like they're fukked no matter what happens.:yeshrug:

Not much, it's basically over for them in November regardless. Inflation has killed any chance they had. If not for that, I think republican extremism/abortion/etc would have given them a chance to keep the House and ensured they kept the Senate. They may still keep the senate but the house is gone for sure.

The sentiment is that these guys don't fight, the president is AWOL, and the barbarians are at the gate. And I think the genesis of all of this is the way those Georgia elections were run. Winning the senate (with 50 seats) was marketed as the be-all-end-all of importance. We need to do this to get a stimulus check! And everything else! Vote, donate, etc! And yes it's a great thing they won and the bill they passed was great...but since then it's been a disaster outside of a couple bright spots. And folks are sitting back asking why isn't more being done. Explaining that you only have 50+1 votes isn't cutting it, even though it's true.

It's a wrap. The social conservative barbarians are at the gate and they about to break that shyt all the way down.

Moderate Republicans are either scared or impotent, same is true for their Democrat counterparts, and progressives are generally a bunch of unpersuasive moral grandstanders who are satisfied with saying " I told you so" after they are rack up L's against the moderate Democrats.

Listen to Patrick Deneen and Yoram Hazony to gain insight into what the GOP has in plan for this country. It's scary to say the least.

Throw Adrian Vermuele or Sohrab Ahmari or Rod Dreher in there as well.

We have fukking fascists in this country and they're not losing power.

Biden out here saying McConnell is a rational republican and can negotiate a deal on guns. This entire generation of older leaders needs to go. On one hand I get why Biden may think this way, watching Obama struggle with negotiations and thinking he could have done done better as president due to his connections as a senate man. But that shyt does not matter.

Right now as we speak there's a heavy push against "red flag" gun laws, which is what dems and republicans are currently negotiating. Which means that this already weak, watered down shyt is gonna be abandoned by republican senators the minute the heat reaches their offices. You cannot negotiate with them. All you can do is win in large enough numbers to exert your will via laws. But even when dems manage to do that, they don't touch guns. So it's a never ending shell game between "we need 60 votes" or "we need enough votes to end the filibuster" and neither are happening anytime soon. This isn't even an issue that animates me (I support gun rights but would like some basic changes) but the point is, this playbook is being run on every possible issue. You waste time negotiating with arsonists and then when they don't get 90% of what they want, they walk away and watch the building burn while you cry about...whatever excuse is in vogue today.

You cannot appeal to these people emotionally. All this sentimental bullshyt has to go. You either have the will to enact your vision or you don't.

Well I mean...I don't disagree but none of this really answers the question of what Dems should be doing currently.

He’s not wrong. Progressives need to mirror the tea party to have any chance but are too afraid to go entirely scorched earth. Democrats are stuck between people who have no will to fight Republicans and progressives who have no will to fight the conservative Democrats they complain about. The Tea Party made John Boehner’s life unbearable. The progressive caucus folding on BBB ended any chance they had for respect.

Basically, we’re fukked as @ogc163 says. Imma see y’all when I dip out to go live overseas.

the dems should be taking a page out of trump's playbook... would trump give a rat's ass if the dems didn't support something he was for...? he'd push for it relentlessly regardless... that's how he got 3 scotus picks in 4 years... he don't give a fukk what you think or what you want.... meanwhile on the dem side, we're scared the reps might be upset with us... gee, you think.... if a dem is breathing, the reps are upset with them.... dems need to dispel the notion of trying to appease evil people... and yes, we need to start calling republicans and conservatives evil because they are... they don't give a fukk about insulting you and they still win elections, but we have to get down on bended knee and beg for their acceptance.... fukk a rep and fukk a trumpist... fukk 'em all....
