If you disregard Jones' D/Q against Montell Griffin, Roy was 49-0 before losing to Tarver. How come I had to find this out through wikipedia? Why haven't boxing fans discussed this?:wtf:

:aicmon:

So James Toney, Bernard Hopkins, and Vinny Paz were nobodies?

Roy's the best fighter of the last 30 years. Better than Floyd, better than Tyson, better than Pac.

:comeon:

He is.

Roy making James Toney look like he didn't even belong in the ring is more impressive than anything Floyd has done. And I'm a big Mayweather fan.

James Toney was weight drained that fight. Dont ignore that. I dont blame Roy for that, but Toney was walking around at 205 lbs 6 weeks before that fight.

I love Roy Jones the fighter, but people are speaking very reckless on his career. Dude was not the best fighter of the last 20 years. Pacquiao has a more impressive record and Pacquiao aint better than Floyd.

Roy fought a lot of bums in the late 90s too.

breh using nigel benn is not the best example....there's too much fukkery involved in that bout...mcclellan was done in by other things besides benn's punches (illegal and legal)

explain??

please go ahead brother..

i have examples of plenty of heads roughin n tuffin cats up..

Benn was an underdog and got knocked down and beat the fuk up in round 1 right???
he came back and stood his ground.

karma is a mother fukkah!!

Roy Jones is only 1 of 2 boxers to every go from winning the Middle Weight belt to winning the Heavy Weight Belt.

do the math and who he fought to win that belt?
Ruiz?? lmao

the guy missed so many elite contenders during his reign..

Jones is a bad ass but throwing him above certain heads is silly..

I don't think some of ya'll are understanding this DQ thing. It was highly regarded as bullshyt, to Pacman/Bradley type "duh" levels. Yes, the record books made it an L, but Roy was basically regarded as undefeated until the Tarver fight.

Marciano's record should be taken with a grain of salt
-fought a lot of guys with terrible, terrible records
-fought great fighters past their prime
-only had 6 title defenses(in comparison to other greats)

He was smart...went out on top

Still can't deny it's a great accomplishment.

Larry holmes was so damn close:ohlawd:

gerald was already neurologically damaged courtesy of his first fight with julian jackson....that whole blinking rapidly, 1000yd stare, and couldnt keep his mouthpiece in his mouth..he was doing that in sparring sessions before his fight with benn....gerald also was not a natural middle or super middle..dude walked around at 190-195 he boiled down to make weight...he also did it incorrectly for the benn fight so he was weight drained...the only benn did was able to withstand gerald's onslaught (which he barely did) and hit the cat with numerous rabbit punches and a vicious headbutt that weren't called by that ref to win that fight

i saw this fight live...and even though you think its BS..he hit dude cleanly twice after pausing when griffin took a knee....same thing when arthur abraham a couple yrs back knocked andre dirrell the fukk out when he slipped down..you hit a fighter when he's down and he can't continue you lose by DQ..period

but before he got caught in the 9th round griffin was giving roy some trouble in that fight :skip:

its as cut and dry as it gets. he stood there and saw dude on a knee, and he threw 2 punches anyways. the fighter couldnt continue, how else are you going to rule it? :wtf: he paused, looked at him on a knee, and punched him twice anyways. what was there to question?

no it wasnt. It was controversial but it was not bullshyt.

The other thing is how people are acting like Montell Griffin was some bum who was going down at any time. That was a very close fight that was going either way until the DQ.

no, it really is that cut and dry.
