Following reports that the shooter resembled the Joker character from Batman, witnesses said he “was in full riot gear… He looked like he was from a SWAT team” and “was dressed from head-to-toe in SWAT gear… with Kevlar. He looked like one of the cops. That’s what was really confusing to us.”

Weren't the reports after this happened saying the same thing? That the guy was protected from head to toe?

Holmes was in the theaters when it started and left through the emergency exit. He would've been dressed normally, people would've noticed the guy had red hair.

Not sure what the snippet is trying to say, there hasn't been anything saying the guy wasn't dressed in protective gear when he came back in.
