i wasn't a Wiz fan when he blew up outside of Black and Yellow and a couple tracks. but damn this is his best song by far. I relistened to his mixtapes and he had some great songs in his discography.

Man....top 5 Wiz song. Flight School had to be my favorite. I never had a problem with his crossover records back then either because I thought he could pull something like that off.

And this....funny how people's lives change in 4 or 5 years:

When you listen to Rolling Papers you knew it was over at that point and he'd never go back. I messed with Hopes & Dreams and Rooftops but that's it. No matter what he says that whole album is a direct attempt (and success) to get mainstream money. If you really listened to Wiz you could never deny that if he made the right pop record it would blow up. The problem is, if you have crossover appeal it should only be done occasionally. He went all the way out of his lane to advance his career and his original sound suffered for it.

You can't be mad at him. The shelf life of trendy weed rappers isn't very long and he got his.

Last thing....whoever said Wiz was imitating Curren$y on K&OJ was exactly right. I still think he got rich off Spitta's sound. Curren$y might secretly feel that too "style done got switched up, cause the last one got bit up".
Tell me "Showroom" and "Famous" don't sound like direct Wiz influences. There's a number of Spitta songs where you can see the similarities, Wiz just realized he appealed to a way larger audience.

Eastside of that Motor
I saw Wiz live at the beginning of 2011 and then again last summer. It was like seeing two completely different people.

The first show (about 2,000 people and before RP) he had that cool, humble, laid back swag like a young Snoop. You could just tell he was just a cool dude who smoked a lot of weed.

The second show (after the album and about 10,000 people he looked like he was on crack, jumping all over the place and being cocky as hell talking about money the whole time.

But to me he's always been a follower. First he had that Cam'ron swag when he came out. Then he started hanging with Spitta and picked up his style. Then he started hanging with Juicy J and acting just like him.

Some nikkas are just followers :yeshrug:

thats what im trippin over breh, he's been a crossover artists his whole career but something changed after k&oj. he went to far to the pop sound and i dont see him going back to the pre-rp wiz. him and cudi were 2 of the best crossover rap artists of that generation... now look at both of em :notthisagain: :snoop:

showroom doesn't sound anything like a wiz track that'd he'd make before fukking with spitta andretti. neither does famous. Curren$y consistently has had that laid back, almostn codeine flow and has had better bars then wiz. Showroom imo was one of spitta's clearest songs that shows what he is and what he can do, one of his most original jawns. Rappers talk cars but none talk that shyt like spitta. Rappers talk weed too but spitta breaks that shyt down differently then a lot of these dudes. If anything, i'd say the joint with wale was more of a wiz khalifa feel song but even that, curren$y kept his style and influence

K&OJ is classic tape. The problem with Wiz really is the production changed and now he stay using basic trendy beats its not cohesive like his older mixtape.

content really hasnt changed, he rapped commercial even when he was underground, if that makes any sense.

So he's still supposed to rap about the same shyt over and over again after he's had some success and seen a lot of different things. People need to stop being so close minded and realize people change and adapt and that is usually reflected in their music.
