you gotta be like 15 or something.

in 97, the minimum wage was $4.75.... a nikka who had a job,and was old enough to work full time, would've had to work 40+ hours to even be able to afford a pair of them with the tax.

having a pair of pennys was a big deal, unless you got them as a birthday present, the only way you was gonna have a pair was if you was selling dope, or you robbed a nikka for his.

and SMH at you implying that anybody with expensive shoes made minimum wage and either gave all their money to kicks or was out robbing people...

How were there lines? J's were released during the day time in the 90's.......along with a bunch of sought after shoes......

There was a reason kids in high schools would wear them in school the day of the release, they waited in line at the malls. When word got back that kids started skipping school to go to the malls (this was a big deal in the 90s in this area), they transitioned the releases to Saturdays. Then the lines got insane and people were getting robbed in the parking lots. So MJ and Nike with their selfish selves, cut the amount deployed in initial shipment which only increased demand and raised the price.

Homey this was happening everywhere not just in Baltimore.....and you talking like the lines were huge....there was like maybe 20 people at the most.....and how old are you? Release dates for shoes werent even given out like that.....for the Foams they sent out a postcard with the release date on it and they did it during the afternoon.....

considering that nobody in this thread is 40..and is at most, early to mid 30's... these people were teens.

it's not even assumption, just fact.. that most if not all teens do make minimum wage.

you cant fukking comprehend, cause nobody implied that shyt...dont reply to me again.

Im not saying it didnt happen anywhere else....I'm sure the demand in NY and Chicago were exponentially greater. I was in High school in the late 90s and a Jordan release was the equivalent of a Madden release. I agree that shoe craze is bigger now, but its for a wider variety of shoes. Then it was mainly the big three, (J's, Foams, Flights) but during Jordans playing days and his days with the Wizards, Jordan releases were huge here (PG County, MD). But people were robbing and killing for everything, Eddie Bauers, Timbs, J's and Foams and the reason it was mostly over clothes is because chains, fronts/grillz, pinky rings and stuff like that never caught on here, well at least not since the Rayful era.

:laff: at you posting all that hot air in my thread and then telling me not to respond to you. Check your previous post again, that is exactly what you imply with a caveat of them being gifted (which should have been your main premise since this is the way most teens get their expensive stuff). You clearly IMPLY that people were not going to spend their whole minimum wage check, so to get them you were either selling drugs or a stick up kid.

and this is where you make yourself look stupid...

the original post was in response to some stupid nikka claiming that " you were a broke ass nikka if you couldn't afford some $180 shoes in 1997 "

if you were 16 in HS in 1997..

nearly all kids work minimum wage jobs at that age...cause thats the only shyt they're qualified for.

i clearly stated they'd have to work 40+ hours to even attain the money for the shoes...and in most cases HS kids are legally not allowed to work that many hours in a week.

a 16 year old nikka in HS who bought a pair of pennys without his parents or anyone giving him the money either worked for weeks and saved up for them, or he was selling dope/robbing.

the latter was much more common than the former.

we talking about kids in HS, not grown ass men nikka.

First off minimum wage was in fact 5.15 second most people knew about the 'posites dropping weeks if not months in advance so most cats was saving dough up. I was working part time and had a few side hustles so I was able to cop without hurting my pokets to bad.
