I didn't. I mentioned them because of the comment about name changes and the reason they changed their names, which was to whiten up their brand.

AOC, for example, could further whiten her brand by something as simple as dying her hair a lighter color. Non-white puerto ricans don't have that same luxury.

That’s fair. And I get the argument. My issue is that I feel like other groups do tend to focus on their own interests and plights in this country unless it’s in their best interest to side with us. And while I don’t necessarily think it’s harmful for us to see this issue the way you and others do, I think based on our own issues and status in this country, our concern should be focused on issues that pertain to us. While AOC may not be 100% European and is a mixture, she is still not a bw and I know she’s never identified as such even though she’s supportive of us.

I appreciate her support nonetheless and I don’t have any real issues with her or any person of latin heritage, and I do think there is some similarities between their experiences and ours in this country. But I do think that focusing on others the way we do (and again I see us doing this more then any other nonwhite group) is strange, it also can be perceived as weakness. We are always looking for kumbaya/unity with other groups while they are more invested in their own—I believe we should be. But I digress. What’s interesting is that when I talk to other bw they don’t look at this issue the way Brehs do in this thread.

I feel your frustration. And I’m with you when it comes to focusing on home FIRST. That’s why I’m conflicted when arguing with you or someone like @Matt504 because I know where y’all coming from. I’m not with the oppression Olympics bullshyt and riding the coattails of our people’s plight either (hence why I’ve grown to dislike “PoC”). I just don’t think that should preclude our ability to see when race baiting nonsense is being peddled by weirdos like Tucker Carlson. Hispanics/Latinos have faced their own set of obstacles here and consequently I do think a natural kinship has formed between us…at the very least when it comes to Puerto Ricans or Dominicans. Idk… maybe that’s just been my experience and some of y’all see it differently. I’m in no way trying to say they’re black.

In my lifetime, I was born in 1980, Mexicans have not been considered white. Is it your contention, over the past 40 years, that Mexicans have been considered white in America?
